I get your sentiment but...I'd prefer the game be decided by the players and not by incorrect calls that are out of the players' control.

He asked if I knew where a certain bar was at and it happened to be the one we were heading to so I told him to just follow us. Then he asked "Is that were all the bitches are at?"

          Yup.

I'll leave the story right there.
When I was going to school in Moraga he actually came to the Athletics complex at St. Mary's and talked to all the athletes (not just baseball guys) he was an amazing person and gave a lot of good advice. Just a few weeks later I ran into him again in Half Moon Bay (where he lives) while on the beach he was surfing. Both were life events I'll never forget.

I've met quite a few athletes and I have friends that are pros, but Eric Byrnes is up there in the Top 10.

No, this was Game 5. They still had to go back to Atlanta and Kevin Brown beat Glavine to clinch the Pennant. Trust me, as a Braves fan these details are burned into my psyche.

Wow, it was that bad of an umpire in that important of a game?

I'm not laughing at the strikeout anymore, but that umpire's zone was dreadful. The first gif almost looks like the umpire is calling strike before the ball crosses the zone.

It was awful man...as I watched that game I was throwing things. Braves couldn't have hit those balls with a bed slat...the thing is the strike zone wasn't the same both ways. Maddux had 9 K's in the game, but only 2 were looking. Half of Hernandez K's were on called strike 3.

It's strange because that's the year I started watching the Braves as well. Look, I knew they lost to the Marlins there, but I most remember them beating the Giants afterward (I was at the game in SF when Devon White hit the grand slam). Didn't realize that game featured that kind of umpire strike zone, though. I guess I just don't remember that far back.

Just remember though that Madduz and Co. used to manipulate the strike zone just as much in the regular season and playoffs. It cuts both ways but I agree with you. That game was the most egregiously awful home plate umpiring i've ever seen in my life.

^^^ I got the gifs from here. There are plenty more gifs that I could have chosen from of the called "strikes" from that game.

Vis-a-vis Hernandez's celebration after the last pitch, the ball was so far outside that the catcher was in the process of throwing the ball back to the mound before Gregg rung up McGriff and ended the game.

Glavine in particular was notorious for getting the outside corner, so my sympathy for Braves' fans only extends so far.

The Eric Gregg Game, Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals and Game 3 of the 2007 Western Semifinals were the three most egregiously-reffed games I've watched in my history watching sports. The latter two were proven to be corrupted, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Eric Gregg Game was too.
