I was listening to Sports talk radio earlier today and the hosts had a great idea. It was 25% per party, the parties were fans, players, coaches and media members. I like that idea a lot. That way everybody gets some sort of voice. But if there was one change I would make is to take away votes from the media because they would leave guys off their ballots that deserve to be there. For reasons such as suspected PED use, or they just dislike a player, or he doesn't talk with them after a game. Also I think the fans should be able to vote for all positions including the pitching staff. Like 4 starters and a reliever.

Sabermetricians would like this one:
Every starter in the league is assigned a point value based on their WAR ranking in the league (1-15). So, the top third baseman in the AL would have 15 points per vote, etc. Most votes gets the top spot.
Seems almost like seeding to me where #16 has to go up against #1.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I think a great idea would be to keep the voting as is but the managers get to decide who actually starts. You'd have the best of both worlds with the fans being allowed to participate but if we get something fishy like the Infante situation that nearly came up at least it can get cleaned up by the manager of said All Star squad.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I think they should reverse it. Players pick the starters and fans get to pick most of the reserves. Then managers get to pick replacements for pitchers pitching the Sunday before and for DL players to round his team off.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: MLB Off-Topic
See I don't really like this idea because I assume any manager would automatically start all his own guys...
...and I don't really like this one either because if a team is absolutely stacked, the AS manager has to decide which guy is "his guy" to start for the ASG.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Just throwing stuff out there, but I would like for the fans vote to count for 51% (so you can still claim that "fans choose the starters") but members of the BBWAA (I know some would suggest players and/or coaches having a say) would count for the other 49% for the starters and 100% of the reserves but still preserve the by now "traditional" last in player voted in by the fans.

Yeah, I can appreciate if teams think they have ultra specific data breakdowns that can help them, but it's not interesting to me in the least on a spectator level. And it's not like it's gonna bring in more of the casual or younger fans that the sport needs at this point.Comment

From a fan standpoint? Just more pointless garbage to feed people's unrelenting desire to feel like they're an "insider."Comment
