Re: MLB Off-Topic
Call me biased for the Giants guys, but they really do have the best. I've had MLB.TV for ten years now and literally taken time to hear every radio and TV broadcast from every team before, and no other guys touch their TV or radio. There isn't much homerism outside of emotion for a particular moment, either.
The only caveat is for it to be best, Duane Kuiper must be with Mike Krukow on TV.
As far as radio, they have Jon Miller (come on!) and Dave Fleming. What I fear most is that Fleming might leave for full-time national broadcasting someday (he's that good), and the other three are getting up there in age and may retire soon.
I cannot go back to Joe Angel, please no, never! Even Ted Robinson was not my favorite. These guys are the best, but they are only here and now. I might not be able to say that in 2020.
Keep in mind, there are other TV guys that I really do like, just not as much as SF. Unfortunately, I'm not a big Scully fan, though I will admit he's really good at keeping a conversation going with himself for a full game.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Regarding PEDs CMH nailed it. While I don't think it's nearly as prevalent as it once was there are still guys looking for shortcuts and remember there's also HGH and other means beyond traditional steroids. I'd say there's probably 10% of players on something/trying to get away with it.
As for radio guys, I remember taking a trip a couple years ago and really enjoying the Twins radio broadcast. I can't really recommend Toronto's radio broadcast, while I have tremendous respect for Jerry Howarth he tends to get a little repetitive at times HOWEVER, the future is bright as Mike Wilner (who tends to do middle innings during home games) is excellent right now and will make for a great radio PBP guy once Jerry gives up the reigns.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Saying all that, I really give zero ****s about PED use. I really don't care. If a guy wants to harm his body for glory and money, his perogative. The game doesn't have feelings. I don't believe in the "sanctity of the game" argument. It's entertainment. It's as basic as that to me.
I will disagree on the "harm his body" part. HGH and steroids can be very beneficial when used properly. HGH is damn near a miracle drug with very few, if any, side effects.Comment

I'm with you on not caring. Hell, if I had the chance to do them knowing it would give me a better chance to make it to the Majors, I would absolutely do it. You're talking about increasing your earning potential astronomically.

It interests me because I theorize financial prosperity aids in future avoidance. Always seems it's minor leaguers / foreign players new to the country, or young players short of a big contract getting caught and suspended.

Everyone is just going to give you their own team's guys....and with that disclosure, I really like Pat Hughes on the Cubs Radio Network. He's paired up with color man/former Cub/Twin Ron Coomer as of right now.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
On the contrary: I have already mentioned my displeasure of past Giants announcers, as well as possible future Giants announcers. I also couldn't care less about Kruk without Kuip, and the other way around (and they also are terrible in the MVP Baseball video game series). Finally, Miller is a national broadcast phenom, and Fleming is soon to be one (which most everyone agrees about who have heard them, and cannot say the same for one Joe Morgan).
Most other people also haven't heard the other announcers. I have. I have not given them all 20+ games or anything like that, and as I said I do like a lot of others... but there are also a lot that I dislike.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Sometimes I'll be listening to a game on my drive and I'll think to myself "good grief how boring are these people?"
I should start paying attention to which games and which guys.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Rule 5 picks are marginal big leaguers almost by definition. Of the 36 players picked in the the 2011-2013 Rule 5 picks, only four are currently in the big leagues. But 12 of those 36 “stuck” on a roster for their Rule 5 season, which means they made the major league minimum salary (currently $507,500) in that year in the big leagues, plus an additional $100 a day per diem on road trips.
The financial difference between being a non-40-man roster player and a big leaguer is massive. Minor leaguers in Triple-A who are not on the 40-man roster often make less than $2,000 a month. A big leaguer making the major league minimum makes more than $2,000 per day. In his roughly 10 days on the big league roster, Stumpf has already made more than $25,000, significantly more than he made all of last year in the minors.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks
