This is looking like the wrong year to make a declaration like that.

I know, but with Lackey and Heyward on the team, I'm already in a state of love/hate with the roster. Braun would just push me over the edge, I think.

Who would they trade for Braun though? Seems like a dumb article to me, be very stupid to mess up that current chemistry.

Pedro's 1-hitter against the Indians in 2000 has been ranked the single greatest pitching performance of the Modern Era by FiveThiryEight.

You don’t need us to tell you that Pedro Martinez in his prime was one of the most dominant pitchers in Major League Baseball history. But we’ll give you more proof anyway. The former Boston Red Sox pitcher’s best two seasons came in 1999 and 2000, when he ran through monster offenses at the height […]

They didn't go much into detail on their methodology, but for my money the best pitching performance I've ever seen was Kerry Wood. That Astros lineup wasn't a bad one at all and he absolutely dominated them...literally made the entire lineup look inept.

I saw a lot of Pedro gems and dominant games, Randy Johnson throw several no-hitters (including a perfect game), Roger Clemens strike out 20, etc, but none of them had the same "dominant" feeling like Wood's game.

Yeah I feel like Pedro's 17K one-hitter against New York was a more dominant showing, but the link to FiveThirtyEight's site goes into more detail.

In the summer of 2000, the Cleveland Indians had a lineup to be reckoned with. By season’s end, they’d pounded out 950 runs, second-most in the American League …

Kershaw's 15 K no hitter and almost perfect game cones to mind. Kerry Wood comes to mind. Scherzer's recent 20 K performance is rather impressive.

A Detroit lineup with, Miggy, Victor Martinez, Jd, Castellanos etc..

It's irresponsible to call that the single best performance, there's been too many to narrow it down to one.

Interesting that this isn't the case in the same website's article on Max Scherzer's 20-K game.

I don't find a 2000 Pedro 1-hitter against the Indians in their Top 5, although he holds down #2 and #4.

Seconded. I've never seen a baseball move like that. I've never seen batters react that poorly before or since.
