Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yea I understand completely why they did it. I haven't watch the documentary lately but I think it said he was part of ESPN but I feel like that's something you can easily edit. But the game happened and it should be shown that way.Comment

Despise Schilling, but that's just egregious on ESPN's part. How can you just remove that.
ESPN really does some low things sometimes though.

Might as well remove Dave Roberts' SB, too, if we're completely re-editing the whole thing. How about they re-write the whole saga from Doug Mienkiewicz's POV? I want to know what he ate, what he was listening to in the clubhouse, how big he crapped...no need to catalog one of the most exciting postseason series ever with important details about the games. This type of stuff always makes me think of what Peter Gammons said when he left ESPN for MLB Network. "I don't care about being first....I care about being right."

Re: MLB Off-Topic
What if a player is signed to a team-friendly deal? Who does voiding it really hurt? The player already loses all salary while suspended. Could another team come in and bid up the voided player and actually result in a larger contract in this hypothetical? Maybe give the team the option to void if they choose to do so. But again, good luck getting that by MLBPA.
Using Gordon as an example, perhaps Miami is allowed to see how Gordon responds when returning from his suspension.
He's paid his regular wage for the remainder of the season.
The Marlins evaluate if he's better or worse after becoming clean and then are given the option to continue with the players contract.
If he sucks, they void it and he becomes a free-agent.
The ball should be entirely in the club's court.
Did they pay $50M for a juiced-up player that would have been a $5M player without PED's?
It's not fair they were suckered into paying for a player who isn't as good when playing clean.
Gordon earned a lot of money by cheating. It's not fair to his club, or the fans, that a large chunk of their budget is wasted on a false player.
And I realize that chances of implementing this system are slim. But don't for a second think there aren't MLBPA members who would love to see this option.
I've heard a few talking heads on MLB XM mention that they've spoken to some players who want a system like this in place.
So if enough stars bang the drum, this concept isn't as outlandish as some may think.Last edited by Money99; 05-02-2016, 08:08 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Here's ESPN's official explanation:
“When a live event runs long, it’s standard procedure to shorten a taped program that follows,” the statement said. “In this case, we needed to edit out one of the film’s four segments to account for the extra length of the softball game.”
Now I completely understand having to cut it down because due to the softball game running over. But why not cut out other parts? I haven't watched the film for a while but did they cover parts of the first 3 games? Why didn't they cut that part out of there?Comment

Re: voiding contracts. It's easy for those players to say that now. When they get into a room with their teammates going into a negotiation and bring that up their tune will change. Why on earth would you ever give up that kind of contract security? So people outside the game will feel better about the "integrity" of the sport? Go ask NFL players how giving up contract rights has worked for them!
And Justin Verlander of all people is counting another man's money. HAComment

Is Verlander counting anyone's money? I thought he just said he shouldn't have been allowed to play during the appeal.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

But still. Not really his place to be saying those things. I'm sure he'd enjoy the benefits of the appeals process if he was under scrutiny.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The MLB does an exhaustive check on all the data that led to a dirty test.
Gordon probably tested positive a month ago. Maybe more.
So this appeal is hoping they can pull a Braun and throw someone under the bus, or to get his story straight so he looks good to the fans when he returns.
I agree with JV that he shouldn't be allowed to play while the appeal process is running.Comment
