re: MLB Off-Topic
If they want Hamels, you're talking Soler, Bryant, and Baez most likely. I highly doubt a deal gets worked out. Phillies want to build around Hamels. They would have to be extremely blown away with a deal to move him. If the Cubs offered those 3 (which I find very unlikely), then Hamels is theirs.Comment

Ruin Tomorrow Junior is dumb but I don't think there's a human being that is that unintelligent that they would ask for two top 5 prospects and a top 40 one for the right to pay the rest of a $144M contract to a 30 year old pitcher."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

If the Cubs were dumb enough to offer those 3 guys you mentioned then I think even Amaro as dumb as he is wouldnt pass up that deal, lol. I know its the Cubs, but I dont see them being that ignorant to offer any of those guys in any deal, especially not Bryant and Baez.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

re: MLB Off-Topic
Just to illustrate a point, if the Phillies sent the Cubs two Cole Hamels, I might take the trade. I might. Maybe. Boring justification:
Spoiler
Addison Russell Surplus Value $42.2M
Cole Hamels Oliver Projections: 3.7, 3.5, 3.2, 3.2 (for his contract). $109M total value. Subtract his salary: $19.5555M surplus value. That's 46.3% of Russell's value. So Hamels would have to be the secondary piece in a deal for him. Blah blah blah stats.
In English, Hamels' contract really, really cuts into his worth as an asset to the point that he's maybe half as valuable as Russell.
A fair exchange for him would a hitter in the 25-50 top prospect range like Arismendy Alcantara, Jorge Soler, or Albert Almora straight up, or a pitcher 11-25 which the Cubs don't have. And Hamels is a 30 y/o pitcher which, while factored into the aging curve, detracts from his value in that his arm could go boom at any time, in which you're left with a CC style steaming heap of contract.
This could all change depending on how much money the Phillies eat. For Addy Russell to be fair (not even necessarily worth it) for the Cubs, they'd have to eat $20-30M.
So yeah, I really wouldn't do that lol. GG Theo.Last edited by AC; 08-07-2014, 11:42 PM."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Because I use stats with an abbreviation, I shouldn't be allowed to post, right? I'm fully allowed to call Cam out on his Harper reference if I have an opinion to back it up, which I do (Harper's likely upcoming regression in power).
If I did something against the ToS, cool, call me out on it, but it's ridiculous how I get called a smartass, dick, *******, POS, and other things, as well as get told that I'm the reason that you stay out of this forum because I use stats that aren't popular with people, and that that's okay, but somehow what I say isn't.Last edited by AC; 08-07-2014, 11:55 PM."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't think Cam was saying that Baez is as good as Harper already because he has 1 less HR in 200 or however many less ABs.
It was just a cool/funny stat that didn't really need further interpretation or sabermetrization (yeah I made that up).
Kehlis can correct me if I'm off base, but I think that's what his comment was referring to.Comment

It was the whole "If were going to misuse stats" quote that annoys me.
Have at it, you're fine. Just seems high and mighty to me but nothing against the TOS.
And what's with getting so defensive lol? I just shared (as I did last week) that it's posts like that that keep me away from here.Comment

It's a cool fun fact but it's also misleading imo. Better examples could be Jay Bruce or Mark Trumbo.
Sabermetrization should be in the dictionary lol.
Never said you violated TOS.

I was pointing out what happens when you misuse stats. I dunno, I could have said "See, this is what happens when you misuse stats" but that doesn't sound much different/better. I don't see how I was being high and mighty. Cam and I have discussions like this all the time, in the forums and through PM.
I dunno, I think I have the right to be a bit defensive when I frequently get blasted and told that I'm exactly what's wrong with this forum (not just you) for merely having an opinion.Last edited by AC; 08-08-2014, 12:03 AM."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment
