Other people have said it could just be some kind of charity announcement. My favorite guess is him being named captain [emoji38]

Here's an odder one. Evan Longoria: called up April 14th 2008, April 18th signed a 6 year contract extension.

Jack Curry puts out the fire: its a media session with the Spanish speaking media. What a bummer.

Gary: 3 Pm press conference is just Q&A with Latin media. No worries. Todo tranquilo.

Why give them any sort of break? The DS should start day following the WC game.

I believe it's scheduled in for potential postponements.

The main reason is TV, of course, but there are some practical considerations. Possible cross-continent travel issues, for example. Also gives the leagues a buffer if #TeamEntropy emerges triumphant. Let's say today's Tigers/Indians game is cancelled, then Detroit finishes 0.5 games back of Baltimore for the 2nd WC spot. If so, this would be their schedule...

                  Sunday: Game 161 in Atlanta
Monday: Game 162 (rainout makeup game) in Detroit vs Cleveland
Tuesday: Game 163 (1-game playoff for 2nd WC) in Baltimore
Wednesday: AL Wild Card Game in Toronto
Thursday: ALDS Game #1 in Texas

What if Toronto, Baltimore, and Seattle finish Sunday with the same record, with Detroit a half game back? It was always fun taking these scenarios into account when making MVP (less fun for my programmer).

EDIT: I take too much time writing posts.

                    Totally get that.
I'd still like the league to do its due diligence to make sure the 3 teams that secured a spot are given a bit more advantage over the WC winner.

If the Tigers were lucky enough to get that WC spot, I'd be fine if they had to play on Wednesday only to fly out to Texas for a Thursday night game.

Yeah, except the Red Sox aren't getting bumped out of prime time. Are you cool with the Tigers playing 12 innings in Toronto, then flying out to Dallas for a Thursday 1pm Eastern game?

How messed up would that be? The team with the best record in the AL not even getting a primetime game...

Ortiz interview with Verducci, I obviously hate him but he always has great stuff to say, it's interesting to get inside a hitter of his caliber's mind.

But it’s not like I watch the whole game on TV, because I go back and forth in the dugout, but I like to see the pitcher’s expression, face, body language, what they do, how they approach. It’s different things that as a hitter you get caught [up in]. It’s hard not to look at it that way if you want to be successful. So when I’m doing that, I’m not just trying to do it for myself; I do it for everybody else on my ball club. We share ideas between at bats. We talk about the guy on the mound.
Well, I don’t know how a lot of people are going to feel about what I’m going to say, but I think this game right now is at its best. Like I don’t think this game is going to get better, or used to be better than it is right now.
Can't wait to get this guy out of my life, he's had a great career, unfortunately so much of it was tormenting me lol. He'll get the boos he rightfully deserves, he's 0-fer in the series so far so I'm sure he hits an upper deck homer tonight.

                            Easy fix.

                            Make it a 154 schedule.

Speaking of cancellations, the Tigers-Indians have officially been postponed.

Interesting that Clevelands twitter says game will be made up on Monday "if the Tigers need to". So does Cleveland NOT need to play the game? Meaning if Tigers are eliminated from playoffs already, but this 1 game could determine home advantage in the other ALDS series, will Cleveland not have to play a game?

If it has any potential impact it will be played.
