Don't forget the WBC will be starting soon too. Too bad the Japanese Babe Ruth won't be playing. I was so looking forward to seeing him.

WBC Kicks off March 6 with the much anticipated Israel vs South Korea lol.

But really though, you got some good matchups in the early stages like Cuba vs Japan, Canada-Dominican, Dominican-USA, USA-Canada, Venezuela-Mexico,Venezuela-Puerto Rico, Mexico-Puerto Rico.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of opportunities in future when the Yankees shell out the big $$$ for him after he's posted.

Jokes aside, I've never really seen the appeal of the WBC. The timing is weird and I'd prefer to see players with their real-life clubs as opposed to this worthless exhibition

It's March...If they weren't playing in the WBC, they'd be playing 4-5 innings of "worthless exhibition games" aka Spring Training every other day for the first half of the month.

The WBC is "worthless" games, IMO. I cringe every time I see one of my team's players playing in it and hope they don't suffer a critical injury. I'm with the above; I don't get the appeal, the timing is awful (although I don't know of a better time to play it).

The same thing could happen in Spring Training, or even just working out.

Not entirely...players aren't giving their all in ST vs. the WBC.

More so...some of these players will be playing for playoff teams. That's a lot of time being spent competitively on a baseball field (March-Nov).

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

That's the point. Regardless of WBC or ST, it's "worthless games". At least in WBC it's about national pride. St is just practice games for most part with a few guys playing for a job.

Don't know when the right time might be, best might be February? So before ST happens you have the WBC. NFL is done, NBA has time off for ASW, NHL is in the overly long time period between asg and trade deadline. They could fit baseball in there.

Then if guys need time to rest up, they can take it easy during St for however long they need. Even a minor injury in WBC, if a guys out 2 weeks, he still only misses time into March.

Exactly, like hurting your ankle tripping over a sprinkler or injuring your knee on some bunting practice.......

Agreed, but I'd much rather take my chances in ST than in the WBC. ST is a part of the player's routine...WBC happens every 4 years and the players are playing full out.

I'll concede that the injury risk for a player in the WBC isn't that much more than ST, but just the fact that the WBC comes right as everyone is prepping for the season AND it pushes opening day back by a little bit just makes it worthless to me.

I'd also like to see Montreal get one of those teams but if its a bad product on the field I hope the fans still turn out anyway. Averaging 9000 fans a game ain't gonna cut it. I'm not sure why attendance dropped so dramatically after the '97 season, but that seems to be when the fans soured on the Expos. If the Tampa fans dont get their act together I'd have no problem with them relocating to Montreal if expansion is delayed. One more thing I hope is a Montreal franchise to pick a new moniker. I like 'Expos' but maybe its best to start fresh. Maybe something with a nod to Jackie Robinson, like the Montreal 42's or 42'ers, or Montreal Robins.

Montreal is the prime example for all sports leagues about the negative results that could happen because of a lockout.

If they had proper ownership, they'd be fine. If they get run poorly and cheaply, fans won't be doing them any favors.

For the Pirates Cutch will play right this year with Marte in Center and Polanco in left.

I wonder how Cutch is going to react to that. I'm sure he's not entirely a happy camper about that arrangement but is trying to be a team player even though said team keeps flirting with dealing him away.
