Jays, Mets, Giants, D-Backs and Angels officials were all gathered to watch a showcase from Doug Fister in the hopes of signing him. All five teams are in need of starting pitching right now so we may see Fister finally signing somewhere soon.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Possible good news for MLB in Montreal. FIFA approved fast tracking bid for 2026 world cup. Meaning Canada,USA,Mexico group bidding will know by June 2018 if they're hosting the world cup.
It could impact MLB because Canada doesn't really have any world cup fit stadiums, meaning one would likely have to be built. Closest to being world cup suitable is Olympic stadium in Montreal. Toronto has no room for a new stadium, Vancouver current stadium while not world cup suitable,is still fine. Montreal however needs a new stadium.
If this bid leads to Montreal getting a new stadium that they could use as both a baseball and soccer stadium, maybe that's the final thing that gets a team back. Manfred has said Montreal just needs stadium plans to really be considered, and if the world cup bid does involve them, we'll know in just about a year if it's approved.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
From a fan of sports and from someone who grew up in Montreal, who attended some Expos games at the original Jarry Park stadium as a kid, who attended some of the 1976 Summer Olympics events also as a kid and then attended a few more Expos games at Olympic Stadium as a kid and then a young adult, I would like to see the Expos come back to the city. But at what cost? Who pays for it? Also, I am not going to say that it could not happen, but most MLB parks are sole purpose baseball stadiums. Only a handful of them built many years ago are duel purpose stadiums.
Finally, in Calgary we have a different though similar conversation going on. The NHL Calgary Flames want a new stadium as the Saddledome lacks all the modern amenities the new NHL stadiums have. But the Flames owners do not want to pay for it. The Flames owners want the tax payer to build them a new stadium. So what do they do? They resurrect the idea of Calgary hosting another Winter Olympics. Calgary has the mountains and Canmore only a stones throw away to handle the alpine and cross country skiing events. COP's bobsled and ski jump facilities are still intact so no new money is needed there. Plus the University still has the speed skating track. All Calgary needs is a new hockey stadium and hey why not build a new football stadium while we are at it for the opening and closing ceremonies. From a sporting fan's point of view, the Winter Olympics would be fun to watch in your backyard, but who pays for it all? Contrary to what the politicians and their media says, budgets do not balance themselves and we the tax payers continue to get screwed.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Expos come back. But at what cost and who pays for it? Catch-22.Comment

Cardinals AAA pitching prospect Daniel Ponce de Leon remains in ICU after being struck in head by linedrive, had to have surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
The St. Louis Cardinals organization lays in wait for positive news after their young prospect took a comebacker off his head on Tuesday.
*edit: Realized link didn't mention surgery, here's another that covers that:

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not true. Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton (albeit a tad old) is big enough and could easily host some World Cup soccer games without the need to build a new stadium.

And I don't think Edmonton would be best of places. Once the world cup is done, then what do they do with the stadium? Montreal could have an MLB team there and even occasional mls games such as playoffs since MLB season would be done. Maybe even a grey cup as well?Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
We've discussed it at nasuem but I don't see expansion viable with how low Tampa's crowds are...I don't forsee them moving to Montreal (or anywhere) for that matter either.
The only team that it makes sense with is Oakland given their situation. Even so, I doubt that'll happen being they'll be the primary sports team actually in Oakland soon (which I would think is a draw?).Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Assuming Beane and that ownership actually want to be a draw. Not even sure they really want a new stadium. That would increase expectations, which I doubt they want any part of.Comment
