    Re: MLB Off-Topic

It's odd to me because I always thought their justification for not wearing bright cleats and having bat designs was because it's distracting, I guess for one weekend that doesn't matter anymore? I don't really hate it, just think it's weird. The nickname thing is irrelevant to me for obvious reasons.

I agree, this isn't something i'm 100% in love with but for a weekend I guess I can live with it. It would be nice if the nickname jerseys go on sale and proceeds can go to charity.

        kind of a curious question.

has there ever been a pitcher that has had different deliveries? what i mean is, say for example, if there is a pitcher that has had a side arm delivery but then when he wants can say throw over the top and totally fool a batter with the delivery?

I'd never want a nickname instead of my last name on my jersey.

The other stuff just doesn't matter.

But now MLB can hang this over the PA's heads at next negotiations.

MLB is one of the more natural individualistic games out there. The way you wear your hat, your stance, your windup, etc. They really needed neon cleats and nicknames on their backs too? Waste of a concession.

It's going to happen on the weekend of August 25th-27th
Perfect timing as I'll be on vacation during that time period. lol

I'll have to say I don't really get it...aren't there worthwhile concessions the MLBPA could've gotten from MLB instead of this?

Many. As Yankees fan I watched El Duque and David Cone do this.

I think Dempster does this. There's more that are escaping me.

There won't be different colored bats. It wasn't approved.

And the league won't allow colors that are distracting.

All you're going to see is guys wear different colored gear that isn't team specific. It's nothing.

The headline makes it seem like a block party that got out of hand.

Bronson Arroyo did this a lot late in his career after his velocity was gone. He threw from all different angles.

Clayton Kershaw has started mixing in a sidearm angle from time to time the last year+

I'm a traditionalist. No on nicknames, even for a weekend. It was one thing when the XFL did it because it was 'their' thing. MLB has teams who still don't have names on all of their jerseys. Seems silly to me.

There have been TONS of pitchers who've done that kind of thing. A couple Blue Jays come to mind immediately to me are Tom Henke and while not quite the same thing Marcus Stroman changes up his delivery speed to the point that it fools hitters regularly.

Yup. As long as they can throw all pitches with both motions with command, there's no reason not to do that.

Then there are some pitches that had changed their identity to the side (or low 3/4 slot) as a regularity, such as Javier Lopez.

Osuna does too. He has a hesitation at times to throw guys off.

All sports, leave the old guys who don't like change in the past.

Baseball wise, sure some pace of game changes like runner on 2nd in extras and auto intentional walks are stupid, but they really need to cut down on wasted time which doesn't impact the game like mound visits, stepping out of batters box, off mound rubber and so on.

ya i know about that with stroman and such. but im talking like a completely different delivery not timing of delivery. like 1 pitch the pitcher might deliver say a hammer curve ball over the top but then go submarine on a slider just for example.
