I know why they do it, but these 25th, 40th, 50th, etc season things are always off, IMO. For example, when I lived in San Diego the Padres had a patch to celebrate their 40th season in San Diego during the 2009 season. Great...except, the 2008 season was actually their 40th season and 2009 was their 41st.

Both the Marlins and the Rockies just completed their 25th seasons as franchises and will be starting their 26th...but I get it; it would look weird if they had a patch that said "25th season; 1993-2017".

This is the way I always see it. If you go by anniversary, then it lines up.
