I'm probably one of few disappointed by that.

They also are limiting mound visits to 6 per team per 9 innings(and 1 in extra innings). It's not exactly a stat publicly kept, but 6 mound visits still seems high to me. I would say 2 for a starter, and 1 per additional pitcher entering the game should be max.

Does this include catcher conferences with the pitcher?

I think so, so maybe 6 is a good limit?

Important <s>@</s>MLB rule exception: "Home plate umpire may, upon request of the catcher, allow the catcher to make a brief mound visit" if six visits have been exhausted and umpire believes a cross-up in signs occurred. Union has been concerned about cross-up injury risk. <s>@</s>MLBNetwork

Shouldn't need a mound visit to fix that, but those are usually quick at least

Six mound visits seems excessively high to me but I believe the manager going out to change pitchers is considered a "mound visit" so it might be alright.

Joel Sherman says there's no penalty for the 7th visit. The umpire is just supposed to stop letting them happen.

Excited to see 4 man umpire crews setting up like offensive lineman to protect the mound.

Hmm. I guess they're giving players/managers a chance to change things on their own. Maybe it'll work.

They shortened commercial breaks by 20 seconds as well. Down to 2:05 from the last out to the first pitch of the next inning.

Now they just need to plaster logos and sponsor overlays all over the actual broadcast itself!

They already do in some markets. I know here in Toronto we get all kinds of virtual signage and 10 second promo reads for Honda etc etc.

I could see this being big reason. Mlb giving them a chance, but will probably very closely monitor specific things all season long. If it's not to their liking, they'll do something about it. Be like "we gave you a chance. These are 2017 times, these are 2018 times. The league didn't adjust, so we'll make them"

I don't mind the Honda and other "break in play" ads. It's quick and you miss nothing. I don't like the digital ads though. CF one is never same colour as Of wall, so it stands out in bad way. And on field ads are so forced. They'd switch to certain camera angles in middle of action, just to get to the camera showing the digital ads on the field.

Aren't there only 3 pitchers with average delivery times greater than the length of the proposed clock?

I don't think anything changes in that regard.

Yea, the clock, while a very annoying ask, wouldn't have been much of a problem.

I HATE the mound visit aspect of this. They intentionally didn't define what a mound visit though which is good I guess. I think some underestimate how often a fielder needs to communicate with the pitcher as well.
