    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I’m pretty sure that’s what they mean with the DH rule. When an NL team is in an AL park the pitchers have to bat. It gives fans something new to see and it’s been done that way in the minors for years.

This wasn't just the internet...MLB Network talked about this last night, reporting it as a story. It wasn't limited to Eisen reporting it.

Exactly this has nothing to do with Eisen being an idiot, talking head, whatever or the Internet/callers coming up with bird brain ideas. He was told by an anonymous MLB executive that this idea was discussed by the MLB's competition committee and it never really left the room. Hell Manfred, today, pretty much confirmed the report.

I was going to add that I don't think anyone on this forum expects that kind of nonsense would ever happen. I'm just floored that the people that "run" this game are even coming up with stuff like this.

Like I'm sure NBA execs actually do talk about putting in a 4 point half court shot. They aren't voting on a rule change. It's not even remotely imminent. He reported it as "being whispered" about. It's not that he made it up, it's that he stated from the beginning that it was a nonstory.

And MLBN has to report on the "biggest story of the day" in the sport. There's a ton of other articles from different publications and they all give the same source, Eisen's radio show.

What are you saying was "incorrect" though? That it was told to Eisen by an executive? No one has said anything but that...it was never reported or stated that this would be implemented. I'm a bit confused by what you are saying is incorrect.

Why are you quoting "incorrect"? I said the story is evidence of what the dude said earlier, that radio hosts say whatever to rile up their base. The fact that it's only at the stage of whispers as opposed to implementation is just further evidence that people like stories that make them upset lol. I'll never get it, but it is what it is.

Anyway, redsox, where did Manfred basically confirm the story today?

The internet was a mistake, basically means there's too much information and it spreads too fast. The radio audience could've kept that little nugget.

                            - softer bases don't care
                            - tackier baseballs ehh, normal baseballs, juiced baseballs, humidor baseballs...I suppose tacky ones would just be more of the same
                            - Rolling 25 man September rosters fine
                            - Switch interleague rules during interleague play (NL teams get DH at home) or abolish interleague play altogether
                            - No midinning changes in ASG nah, we have to be able to take Jeter (and others of his ilk) out mid-inning to give proper re2pect
                            - replay decisions announced by to crowd by umpire ok, seems fine, better than the broadcasters trying to divine what the hell is happening during a review
                            - everything reviewable would prefer nothing reviewable, except HR calls...pace of play! replay is the worst
                            - free tickets for youth groups yasssss

I like all of them, except the interleague play rule. I'm not an expert in baseball stickiness so I'll defer to the players on that, but everything else seems doable. Many NL fans hate the DH, so I don't think that would be as fun or well received as intended.

The fact that it "was discussed" really gives us no context. Was it a pure brainstorming session? Was someone smirking or did they have their fingers crossed when they offered the suggestion? Did the guy who made the suggestion arrive to the meeting in a clown car?

Never really left the room, heh, is the operative part.

Seriously though, I'd be good with an automated strike zone, umps announcing replay decisions and maybe everything being reviewable. The rest - meh.

only thing I agree with is automated strike zone because the strike zone is a big problem but that's really complicated. also the pro DH people want DH but yanno DH provides more offense which kinda makes the games take longer. but also don't want pitching duels because no scoring or action so that's confusing.

replay is also a massive failure because they are so inconsistent and they take forever to make a call but I'd rather they'd have it than not.

(repeat) Scheduled post incoming) baseball really doesn't need fixed it would help if it didn't have a Commissioner that despises the game and promote the ridiculous amount of young players.
