    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Got a couple of trivia questions for y'all:

    1) Name the only pitcher this past year who allowed more stolen bases than earned runs.*

Four hints (tagged in succession, from smallest giveaway to greatest):

    Spoiler

    * I'm sure if you search far and wide enough, you might find somebody who gave up maybe two stolen bases and having allowed one earned run simply because they only threw ten or so innings all year. I'm talking about a pitcher who has made his fair share of appearances throughout the year.

    2) After Opening Day 2019 passes, there is a team that will have seen a different starting left fielder on Opening Day for each of the past thirteen seasons. Name that team, and name the player that started that streak in 2007.**

** Not really a hint, but just a heads up so you're not confused: if they "started the streak," that means they could have been the same starting left fielder before 2007 as well... otherwise the first person on the list would be in 2006, if that makes sense.

The Mets are hiring Jessica Mendoza to be a part of the front office, with a focus on player evaluation. She'll continue to work with Sunday Night Baseball as well.

As far as the trivia, the answer I have for the first one is Carl Edwards, because that's the only one I know that meets 3 of the 4 parameters.

Na, ESPN have plenty of people who also are on the payroll of the big market teams. I'd be more concerned by her complete lack of experience tbh

Also, would I be right in saying that she is yet another signing from Van Wagenens agency? There are conflicts of interest aplenty going on at the Mets this year

You may be right but she's poised to be in the inner circle of the Mets. That's like asking a higher up on other teams doing work nationally but you're right, that's not the biggest problem. Something is definitely rotting in Flushing with how that team is structured right now.

It's not like they made her the head of player evaluation. She's not exactly a "higher-up".

I'm not convinced "special advisors" actually do anything though tbh, more just keep legends around and on the payroll to shake a few hands and sign a few autographs. She does sound like she's got an actual job of some kind, although it's hard to really know with job titles.

Either way, it doesn't really matter as it's not like anyone really puts much weight behind what ESPN commentators say, it's not like they can affect anything really.

Yea and Pedro was helping the Red Sox pitching staff during spring training at times in the last couple of years as well. Think he also helped Price fix pitch tipping a couple years ago.

Incorrect, though I should clarify this pitcher was in the National League in 2018. He may or may not be in the National League this year. He may or may not be signed, he may or may not be retired, etc.

So the previous question is all but answered, but until BigOscar or someone else chimes in, I'll just keep going with that second question. I realize it's not as easy of a question as I thought as you'd probably just keep playing guessing games, so I'll try and leave some subtler hints (I can get more specific with all three if no one still gets it):

After Opening Day 2019 passes, there is a team that will have seen a different starting left fielder on Opening Day for each of the past thirteen seasons. Name that team, and name the player that started that streak in 2007.
                              • One of the starters is now a coach on an MLB club.
                              • One of the starters is affiliated with a sports programming network.
                              • The 2007 player who started the streak was also an All-Star in 2007.
                              • The 2018 Opening Day starter is also the only one on the list to have even played in the MLB in 2018.

Looks like some changes could be coming in 2020. Among them:
-Roster limit goes from 25 to 26
-Max of 13 pitchers on roster
-40 man rosters gone and 28 man roster from September 1
                                -14 pitcher max in September

No pitch clock until at least 2022.

Next CBA is definitely looking like we'll see some big changes.
