It might be unpopular decision among hardcore fans, but you have to admit, more teams making it would draw up more interest and business. More than 6 wouldn't be good because then we could start flirting with below .500 teams making it on occasion. 6 seems like a good number to stop at.

A big problem baseball has is improving attendance. One way to do that would be giving more fans hope that their team could make it.

There's nothing wrong with the business of the sport, they're doing as well if not better than ever so that's not a motivator to me.

I just don't know any "casual" baseball fans the way I know them of other sports, you're either in or you're out. The people I know who don't care about baseball just don't care, it's not that their team is bad so they aren't interested. I'm sure there would be some increase, but I don't know how big.

If I could make 2 changes to the schedule/playoffs:

        1. Get rid of interleague.

        2. Make division series best of 7

Get rid of inter league?! And here I am wishing the MLB would find a way for everyone to play everyone at least one series a year.

I would like to see each playoff series, including the wildcard, become at least a best of 5, preferably a best of 7. If the NHL and NBA can have playoffs that feel like they take 5 months to go through, the MLB can as well. Besides, baseball is all about series.

I don't consider the wild card game a playoff game. I just think of it as a Game 163. I get why it's called one, but basically I don't think a team should pop champagne if they made it to that one-game decider.

If they make it a best-of-five series like canes21 suggested, that obviously would be a different story.

I feel like baseball of the future won't have AL and NL anymore. Might not be anytime soon, but it should happen. 1 league, 4 divisions.

I've watched baseball most of my life, but I still know very little about the NL. I dont watch games of other teams, I know the main guys, but playing some teams once every few years, it's harder to become familiar with those guys.

I dont want interleague games to go away (& with 15 teams in a league, they cant) but whenever they ever expand to 32 teams I wish they'd cut IL games down to 8, 1 road series & 1 home series, 1 traditional rivalry & 1 rotating rivalry.

And speaking of expansion, do they go to eight 4 team divisions or have four 5 team divisions & two 6 team divisions?

My thought and to a degree hope, is that when/if they expand to 32 teams they do 8 - 4 team divisions and have the LDS, LCS, and World Series all be best of 7 series

NBA playoffs don't have back-to-back gamedays.

I think MLB should have seven consecutive days, and a day break between series'. They do it all of the time in the regular season. I get that it's at the tail-end where players are enduring their largest bits of chronic fatigue and that this doesn't give you marquee pitching matchups throughout, but I think it's an acceptable compromise to doing something like shrinking the playoffs altogether.

For the record, I'm fine with the 5-7-7 format, but I always like more baseball as well. Pretty much my primary reason to keeping the 162-game regular season (plus for modern day single season records purposes).

They do it all the time when the logistics are pre-determined.

You won't see the Yankees play a night game in Oakland and then go home to play a home game the next day.

Schedules are already made so that if they have to travel and play the next day, the travel is as short as possible.

Not possible to do that with a playoff series.

The solution is simple - split squads like in Spring Training. It's what everyone wants.

Not sure if I've seen back-to-back games when they've traveled from one city to another, but they may have and I simply haven't paid attention.

For example, back when they did the 2-3-2 home/road format for a seven-game series, the hyphens basically represent the days off in between the games.

I do know when they push up a playoff series if the prior series' sweep leading up to it or something, but I haven't seen the predetermination you're referring to. I'm looking for seven straight, if possible. Of course, outside of the divisional round you rarely ever see day playoff games anyway.

NBA playoffs always seem to have a day off, though.
