Only at home and they had a better road record in 2017.

Yeah, which is why I was curious if they somehow had a system set up for the road as well

If Houston was doing this and other teams that played them weren't. Then they had a distinct advantage and are fake champions. Now if it comes out that everybody was doing this then I'll get off my high horse.

But I really don't think that was the case.

One could say the Yankees are fake champions in the years they won with roided-up A-Rod too. Maybe even anything they ever won with Clemens or Pettitte. But it makes no difference, it's over.

Heck, Astros fans could even allege that the Red Sox cheated them out of a championship in 2018 but what's the point?

Re-iterating Sportsforever's point that this stuff won't be the end of the game... Jack McDowell says that Tony LaRussa had a sign-stealing system using technology with the White Sox in the 80s

"We had a system in the old Comiskey Park in the late 1980s," McDowell, who coaches at Queens University, told the radio station Friday. "The Gatorade sign out in center had a light; there was a toggle switch in the manager's office and [a] camera zoomed in on the catcher.

"I'm gonna whistle-blow this now because I'm getting tired of this crap. There was that -- Tony La Russa is the one who put it in. ... He's still in the game making half a million, you know? No one is going to go after that. It's just, this stuff is getting old where they target certain guys and let other people off the hook."]
Former White Sox pitcher Jack McDowell, who never played for Tony La Russa, said a camera-aided sign-stealing system was set up by the Hall of Fame manager prior to his being fired, and that was used after McDowell made his debut in 1987.

Steroids may have been a bigger problem, but I don't believe they lend to a greater advantage.

Here is part of a post that I made a couple of months back:

Well, here is where the pitcher's perspective comes in. If you gave me the choice of facing one of two player types 1-9: all roided up vs. knowing which pitch type I was throwing... goodness, give me the roided batters 100% of the time. It's not even close to a discussion for me. I have a much, much higher probability of success pitching against hitters where they have no knowledge of what I am giving them (say by OPS comparison), no matter how jacked they could capably get. So for Bonds himself, who had the sense and acuity to probably know what a pitcher was throwing by virtue of sequences, spins, and all that anyway (and I'll give credit to any player who can do that, or give signs to their hitter from second base), was enhanced with what his output was, and to that I say that I don't condone his actions but just do not see it to be the bigger issue here.

But this is a "lesser of two evils" conversation anyway. Both are bad, both are wrong, and both shouldn't be in the game.

Maybe if they did something other than a slap on the wrist teams would be less likely to carry on the grand tradition of outright cheating in baseball. Nah, would make the league look bad. Let's just carry on pretending it's a part of the charm and fun history of the game.

I just heard that Ken 'Hawk' Harrelson kept a hollowed-out can of corn in the press box in the early 90s that players would look up at. He'd put a light bulb in it and it would be 1 flash for fastball and 2 for offspeed. At least that's what former White Sox Warren 'The Deacon' Newson and Craig 'Little Hurt' Grebeck told me.
