Hopefully this is reflected in The Show 20.

It takes away a choice for the pitching team, takes away potential pitch hits to avoid matchups from the hitting team, I just don’t see it.
I agree it doesn't add any strategy, but it does change it. Now managers have to think about who they believe can get through the next 3 hitters rather than having a specialist for one batter and having another guy ready for the following hitter.

I think it also adds a risk/reward scenario of bringing in a guy for one batter with two outs. If he gets the guy he came in for, he did his job and can be pulled during the half inning. If not he's gotta stay in until he gets the third out or faces 3 batters. It will be interesting to see if managers will be aggressive in a situation like that and still employ specialized relievers

Still not a huge fan of the rule, but I don't think it will drastically change the game for worse

It's not strategy. It's dumb, forced, artificial garbage that comes at a sacrifice of a manager not being able to do as he pleases with his roster based on a game's unique situation.

How about relievers start arguing balls and strikes or make disparaging remarks about the umps mom and get thrown out. There'd be a fine I think but it would probably be better for the team than losing their LOOGY to the IL.

Yep...I can see it now; reliever comes in and manager tells him "you're getting yourself tossed after this one hitter...make it good."

When players get ejected, do they also get fined?

By the way, it would be hilarious for a pitcher to strike a batter out on three swings and misses them yell about something till he’s tossed.

EDIT: Though come to think of it, outside of lacking confidence or fearing injury, I can’t name one pitcher who would ever go out of his way to intentionally be removed from a ball game. I’m sure relievers are pleased to hear this news.

I think the umps would be on to it, and they wouldn't throw them out unless they did something suspension worthy. Would be funny though. I sincerely hope no manager is dumb enough to do that as a strategy. Paging Gabe Kapler...

Once again we are all set straight by the most knowledgeable of all at OS. Thank you. I know now that this is not strategy, no matter how much thought is involved in making a decision about potentially 3 hitters instead of 1.

I was thinking of Ozzie Guillen. but then, he fell off the face of the earth since he went into broadcasting. probably better that way. so Kapler it is lol
