No surprise it's union stuff that prevented actual consequences.

Nate Silver makes a good point. Should have put the heat on the PA. Instead it's open season on Manfred.

        MLB Off-Topic

Would’ve been a new level of incompetence to blame the lack of punishment on the Union doing their job.

Side note, we may need to clone SF a bunch of times and dispatch them to different sections of the internet. I keep seeing people say this is the worse thing to happen to baseball in 100 years and I’m just like “if they only knew”.

          Absolutely.

Also, what leg would the MLBPA have to stand on in a grievance over suspensions for cheating? Is it because they’d have to suspend everyone who benefited, which they wouldn’t do it, so the PA would argue they picked and choosed their targets? I don’t know, the MLB has the ability to suspend for some things but can use their own discretion. It would be weird for the PA to argue FOR a suspension if they feel some guys were targeted while others got off...

Does the league suspend the whole team for violating a rule they were still finalizing late in the season? The players with the most trash can bangs? “Umm, I told them to stop and they just wouldn’t.” What are you even going to prove?

Manfred knows he doesn’t have a leg to stand on to mess up anyone’s future earnings over this, which is why they should’ve vacated the title.

They couldn’t figure out a way to suspend them for just a general “cheating” violation? It has to be written in the book exactly? There’s no spirit of the game generality... That’s so ****ing stupid.

Weren’t steroids legal for a while too. Is that why so many guys got off?

A lot of guys got off with steroids because there was no proof, which is kinda my point with this (although yeah, they were against the rules for a long time and the rule was just toothless). If a guy (Barry Bonds, Clemens) never failed a test, what do you suspend them for? In this situation, who did what?

Can't wait for some of these players getting on their high horse to be exposed later. All you have to do is look at Justin Verlander's past comments about cheating and see how he kept his mouth shut when he knew his teammates were cheating.

When we're in the midst of a scandal like this, it's important to remember that baseball has always been filled with hypocrites who are only sorry when they're caught.

They can spare me with the pearl clutching.

That's my understanding, they couldn't or at least the MLBPA would have filed grievances because the punishment/rules against electronic sign stealing weren't codified beforehand.

That's why I said I thought Manfred needed to make a point of emphasis that he is working with the MLBPA to come up with a set of guidelines on future punishment for these kind of transgression. Bellinger, Trout, Fiers, Bauer need to be talking to their union reps and let them know that they want robust sanctions for future cheaters.

Or if, for example, the Red Sox investigation finds something what does Bellinger has to say to new teammates Mookie Betts and David Price.

"It's anger," Markakis told reporters of his reaction to the Astros' scandal and the ensuing response. "I feel like every single guy over there needs a beating. It's wrong. They're messing with people's careers."
Braves outfielder Nick Markakis blasted the Astros for sign stealing, saying, "Every single guy over there needs a beating."

Nick Markakis of all people speaking out. When that happens, that's something serious.

Good for Nick. And he's a billion percent right.

what's a shame is now Houston plays the ''victim'' and when possible opposing pitchers serve suspensions while the Asstros are laughing all the way to the bank.
what is really going to be the popcorn moment when 5 or 6 Asstros are eventually and inevitably traded. the bad thing for these players is Houston's best future trade partners will be the Texans and Rockets lol
