    Re: MLB Off-Topic

The real question I have is what happens when a guy is pitching inside and it hits the Astros batter? Does the ump overreact and start running guys based on his interpretation that it was intentional? Are pitchers influenced to pitch less inside for fear of getting tossed if one gets away creating an unfair advantage in itself for Houston? Dusty asking for protection for his players is rather pathetic in itself but I could see it benefitting Houston depending on how pitchers decide to attack their hitters.

I like the idea of "playing stiff" so to speak.

Extra rough slides, collisions at home, etc.

Too bad there's all those stupid rules in place now to prevent players from being able to handle their own ****.

This proves my point earlier I doubt the MLBPA would fight a player suspension against blatant transgressors.

But Manfred is too scared, either due to perception of his legacy/appearance or in setting a precedence.

The PA would absolutely fight because that’s their purpose. But regardless, who are the blatant transgressors?

Even IF they fight it, I find it would've at least showed MLB tried to rectify it. Wouldn't that be better than players taking it in their own hands?

            Maybe it's just me.

I’m not even sure what information they’d have gotten if that were the route they wanted to go. They couldn’t even get guys in for interviews without giving immunity.I don’t think it really mattered what the league tried if the result is the same.

I really just don't think he cares. Called the championship trophy a piece of metal lol what?

Manfred doesn't give a F about this sport and he shows us over and over again.

I would’ve been surprised by that statement if I hadn’t been told by some number of people that vacating the title doesn’t mean anything because the past is the past and it can’t be changed. It’s just a different way of saying the same thing.

Manfred said he referred to the World Series trophy, named the Commissioner's Trophy, "in a disrespectful way" while attempting to make "a rhetorical point" about the possibility of stripping the Houston Astros of their 2017 championship.

"I want to apologize for that," Manfred told the assembled media at his news conference in a ballroom at the Omni Scottsdale Resort. "There's no excuse for it. I made a mistake. I was trying to make a point, but I should've made it in a more effective way and, again, I want to apologize for it.
Amid player backlash, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred apologized Tuesday for referring to the Commissioner's Trophy "in a disrespectful way." Said Manfred: "There's no excuse for it. I made a mistake."

I actually believe his apology since I understood what he meant when he called the trophy "a piece of metal". At the same time I thought: "that's a poorly worded way to convey that".

True, but how do you let that come out of your mouth? The commissioner of this sport. It's almost like he did that on purpose. Yea it's a piece of metal. Whatever.

                      This guy is unbelievable.

There were a bunch of isolated incidents of people coming out about steroids, but I don't remember it being anything like what we are seeing here. Maybe the coverage is just more widespread now so we're hearing from more guys these days though.

I think it's either take the trophy or take the money away.

Baseball is in a weird place right now. These guys cheated. And not a little bit. The whole damn season. They won the whole thing. A player on the team won the MVP. He probably made few more millions from all the AD's. Not even mentioning player bonuses.

Everytime they get on the field. I can't wait to hear all the drums.

Thing that pisses me off about this is that baseball is usually about what happens on the field and all the great stories day to day throughout the year but now all season we're going to have to hear about this ****ing team and this scammy crap.

All that distractionary garbage is best kept to other sports. Thanks Astros for importing it. *******s.

Some guy went to Astros spring training and banged a trashcan. I say we all throw in a few bucks and pay all expenses for this person (or a rotating group) to do this all spring, at every practice, before every game during BP.
