    Montreal Athletics anyone? lol

I'd almost say the last one out of Oakland cut out the lights but even if the A's go nowhere, they probably cant afford to keep the lights on anyways. Since the yellow balls didnt work out, maybe the A's can play some real night baseball and try glow-in-the-dark baseballs and play with the lights off at the O.Co.
If a team moves, I bet it will be the Rays before the A's.

The MLB gets done what needs to be done to keep people from relocating.
But the As situation like the Rays is all about getting a new stadium. If they don't, then MLB might be forced to relocate one or both. It's not like they're relocated due to lack of interest(in Rays case, their attendance has basically always sucked), but if team doesn't have what MLB wants, there's no real alternative. Do you really think MLB would keep both teams in their same ballpark for another decade?

The owner decides to move a team, not the league.

You've said the same thing twice now and it doesn't make sense.

As an English fan, I have to say the concept of moving a team is completely lost on me, but at the same time, it's intriguing.

Just how badly does it go down if a team moves and do they just literally lose all their fans and have to hope a bunch of new ones turn up in the new place? Do people just start supporting the team because they move to their town? What happens to the old fans, do they start a bitter lifelong hatred of the team for leaving them?

I've never had to go through it but I'd imagine that all depends on why you're a fan of the team. If you like them casually and simply because they are local, then yea, you probably find a different team. If you're an NRAF (non resident A's fan) like kehlis, you probably still follow the team because your like of them stems from something else. If you grew up local and bled green and gold for your whole life that's hard to stop doing even if the team moves.

Fans are definitely lost in the process though. Replaced by fans in the new location excited to have a local team to root for. How that equals out depends on the team and the reason for the move.

Some fans could be bitter for a time but be drawn back to the team after some time because it's hard to just switch allegiance like that. Well , at least for some.

It's been a long time, and I'm sure most here don't remember it, but when the Browns moved to Baltimore it was one of the most devastating things to happen in pro sports.

The rich history of the team and the fan support was matched by few in all of sports.

There was talk in the 80's of moving the Indians to Tampa.

Anywho, Canada is having to rely on two retired guys mainly because a couple of their more talented pitchers declined the offer to play in the WBC. Ryan Dempster is trending like he's going to be a starter and Eric Gagne will be in the pen. They are 39 and 41 respectively with Gagne having the most recent playing experience having pitched 5 innings last September with the Ottawa Champions in the Can-Am league.

My friend played in the Can-Am league after 6 years in the minors. It's where dreams go to die.

Well...more WBC madness for Canada. Russell Martin is expected to play SS at the tournament.

Yeah, he should stick to his normal position. Way less dangerous.

Catching might be inherently more dangerous but playing out of position, I would argue, increases his chances of getting hurt rather than simply playing his normal position.

I agree with this, it's not like he's never played the infield in his life before and he's a pretty athletic guy. Martin will also be doing some catching for sure as well I would think.
