Re: MLB Off-Topic
The way they've botched replay really does amaze me sometimes. It's so much worse than what I thought the worst case scenario was, they don't even get the calls right.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
As for automated strike zone, I don't think we'll get one that's perfect, but even nowadays they need one that at least can tell if ball went over plate or not. Ump can still have final say on if it's too high or low, but automated calls for inside or outside should happen. That's a fixed dimension unlike height where it's more a judgement call/dependent on batters stance.
What are benefits of softer bases?
And I'd be in favor of announcing replays to crowd, as long as it goes like this:

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It will prevent injuries like the one Bryce Harper suffered last year
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OZglnc75VoI" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
And hand injuries that guys suffer from diving headfirst and breaking fingers/wrists/etc. because the base doesn't give at all.
It's exponentially safer when bases are slick because of moisture as well.
This is a simple fix that would prevent 10-15 unnecessary injuries per season, I'd guess. Maybe more.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not even sure why they need to vote on the softer bases. Should be obvious that safer is better.
Unlike pitching helmets or face guards, it doesn't affect anyone negatively.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Wasn't clear. I'm saying that pitchers think helmets will affect their pitching and hitters don't want the guard affecting sight lines.
Who can complain about softer bases?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
As long as the bases aren't those sloped kinds, I guess I couldn't care less with what kind of base they use. I like the idea of hard ones in that they seem more "authentic" or something, but otherwise it really doesn't matter.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

But, I really want a certain type of "thud" sound when the bases are hit under foot. (translation: don't be surprised if there are some complaints...just about anyone can/will complain about just about anything)Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I have never in my life thought about the density of the bases.
But I do want bases. I would hate them getting rid of them and, say, putting a plate or something there instead.
Either way, Verducci has lost me over the years. He's turned into an insufferable "baseball analyst" who spends more time criticizing the game than promoting it. I'll never forget his actions during a Nationals/Giants game that was on Fox Sports in the middle of the 2016 season. Good grief.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 02-24-2018, 02:02 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
If there's one rule I wish they'd implement is some sort of phant 'safe zone' when sliding into a bag.
I hate seeing guys get called out because their bellybutton was off the bag by 1cm and for .5 seconds.
Unless they fly completely off the bag, I'd consider them safe.
