Who is coming up with these rules?
    Weird.

Not the same thing, but in hindsight I sometimes think to myself with two strikes: "That ball was not going to be caught by the catcher and I was a ways away from drawing a walk, maybe I should have just swung at the pitch and started heading for first base." I don't know how practical that is in real life, but that would be incredible to see happen in real life successfully. That is the ultimate sacrifice, taking a strikeout in order to guarantee reaching base.

at least its an improvement over their original idea. on a wild pitch or passed ball you just touch homeplate and you've stolen home w/o leaving the plate lol. no, but seriously, if this by some miracle does catch on, the next logical step is if a runner steals second (or third) and draws a throw to that base, the batter can attempt a double steal of first. I really think these suits in the mlb front-office are getting desperate for eyeballs. maybe the next ''good idea'' will be if an outfielder bobbles a catch and juggles the ball before finally catching it, that should count as 2 outs. think about that Manfred: how exciting would that be for the lead-off batter of a game to hit into a double play. In Manfreds MLB, the most exciting plays will be the ones you've never seen before. If you hit a homer completely out of the stadium, that could count as 2 homers (think san francisco and a homer into the drink). I wonder if the MLB owners are paying Manfred in cocaine & hash.

Maybe we can get it to where hitting the foul pole on a HR is a 2x multiplier. Down 7, bases loaded, walk-off grand slam off of the foul pole.

White Sox extending the netting. Here is the first look at it.

The Chicago White Sox have begun extending protective netting to both foul poles in an effort to improve fan safety.

At one of the Braves games over the past weekend against the Marlins I saw a fan go off with the medical personnel after they failed to catch a mile high popup that made it's way into the crowd. Who will be the pioneer to put nets over the fans too?

They have them at Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park behind home plate, but I’m guessing you meant elsewhere.

Kudos to Jerry Reinsdorf for pushing for this. Although as a Bulls fan that has lost interest in a horribly mismanaged team over the past several years, it gives me literal pain to acknowledge Reinsdorf in any sort of positive way.

Yea, this was along the left field line, past the dirt of the infield. Maybe as deep as the notorious Infield Fly ball, but in the stands.

                    R.I.P. Jim Bouton

Jim Bouton endured a lengthy battle with vascular dementia before dying Wednesday at age 80, his family said.

Ball Four is a must read for anyone that considers themselves a die hard baseball fan. Bouton was a little bit pretentious and moody; he found a lot of fault in others, but he really wrote well for a baseball player. A great, ironic sense of humor also. Thoughtful and iconoclastic. Hell of a pitcher for the Yankees for a little bit there also.

For the record, Ray Ratto is one of my favorite sports writers, and he is even better on radio.

Anyway, I've made mention of one of those items before as well... where is there any proof or indication that any of the changes that he's implemented are working to "save" this sport? Attendance and television numbers are only dwindling.

I personally disagree with the suspension. I saw no malicious intent so I don't see the reason to punish a guy if he didn't intentionally blow him up. Overreaction by the MLB, in my opinion.
