2006, his next to last season, his RF/9 was still higher than the league average for leftfielders, so while he might have looked a certain way, his defensive results were still above average.
though by that standard, he was below average in 2004 and 2007.
he didn't really play the 2005 season (14 games)

I like that Barry lost all that weight after retiring. It's like he didn't really care to be so muscular, he just did it to be the best player he thought he could be. Then when it was no longer necessary, off it went. Reminds of retired O-linemen you don't see for several years, then they come on TV and are like 120 pounds lighter.

Jays announce Jose Bautista is going into their Level of Excellence in August.

The giveaway is a bat flip bobblehead.

Those poor people who will be in line probably after the Friday night game to make sure they get it, because this city goes crazy for giveaways and reselling stuff.

Vegas really wants the A’s. I feel bad for Oakland but Vegas would be a dream destination. If they move they can’t use the excuse of not having money to sign players or do fire sales every year.

I don't feel bad for Oakland, they wanna see major league baseball,
they can drive 12 miles to San Fran.
but I really don't want Vegas to be the A's final destination.
I'd rather see them move to Portland,
which is comparable in population with Vegas

But Vegas can bring in those tourist dollars all summer long even if they have a bad season.

I feel bad-ish for A's fans in Oakland (however many dozen are left), but The City of Oakland as a governing body have done their best to chase the team away. And the organization itself has been happy to use the coliseum situation as a way to lean in to having a low bar for success. They're never expected to do well, so when losing in the Wildcard round is their ceiling it's somehow all good no matter what they do. Just a dumb situation, and a waste of time following that team.

But Portland can just *looks up Portland to Seattle; 3 hours* ̶d̶r̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ watch Mariners games on TV.

I would love baseball in Vegas, I go there like once a year.

I wonder. I can't see Vegas having good attendance beyond the first 3 years.
I mean, if I'm going to visit Las Vegas, baseball would be the last thing on my mind

I guess we'll see. Hockey in Vegas has been good. Then again, they've managed to put together one of the best expansion teams in sports history and its still going.

A 40,000 seat stadium would probably fit them better.

yeah, I guess I'b be interested in seeing how well LV would support 3 major sports teams.
I know attendance for the Raiders gonna be alright.
it is the NFL, and only 8-9 home games no problem.
but I wouldn't be surprised if the NHL attendance dropped if MLB comes to town,
and then the MLB attendance drop after year 3

On the note of Vegas, the timeframe I saw was January 2024 for the As to for sure have a plan 100% in place or else. But what would be the earliest that Vegas would actually get games? 2024? 2025?

Nobody's expecting it to be sold out, it's rare to see ballparks packed to full capacity anyways. But if a 40,000 seat stadium gets anywhere in the 20,000s on average, that's an improvement over Oakland.

It'll suck to see Oakland fans not have a team anymore, but I wonder how many will just wind up being fans of the Giants, or the Vegas team instead of just tuning out of baseball.
