      Re: Barry Bonds is ....

Interesting read, vince, but nothing in there suggests that Bonds is on steroids. The one thing that almost everyone agrees with is that steroids help in the short term, but will break down your body if used long term. Look at Caminiti and Canseco. They had some great (albeit, still human) seasons on 'roids, but their bodies broke down and they didn't have any real longevity in the game afterwards. If Bonds is a walking 'roid factory, as so many of you guys want to believe, why hasn't his body started breaking down? Where are the side effects? As for his head, I've noticed that his neck and face are more muscular than they were earlier in his career, but I haven't seen any evidence that his head has actually grown. How does that work? What's the science behind that? Everyone uses it "Oh, his head is so big, it must be steroids," but no one has one iota of scientific or medical knowledge to back that up. Where does it say using steroids causes abnormal head growth?

Those are interesting points. You also forgot about McGwire, who has also faded away rather abruptly soon after his two monster seasons. If steroids does indeed cause one's head to get bigger, he'd have to have taken quite a dose of steroids for that to occur. And if he did take a lot of roids, his body should have been paying the price for it by now. But not only is he still playing at 39, he's still playing in the outfield! Who knows how much longer he could play if he went to the AL and DH'd.

But then again we really don't know. But the fact that he still is in top physical shape IMO makes it seem less likely that he has taken roids.

No he can't just go ahead and take a drug test. He is still part of the MLBPA, just not part of the licensing agreement. Players have the opportunity to sign the group licensing agreement and most do (everyone for the past 30 years), but Barry decided not to. All that means is no one can get the rights to his likeness on anything, be it on baseball cards, in videogames, or on jerseys, without his personal approval.

Sorry to burst it, but Creatine really doesnt help, and it wont aid in the bulking up process. I took part in a major study with creatine, and the only thing that it did was add a few reps at the end of a final set. No major strength gain, no weight gain, etc.

I also have extensive experience with supplements, and there are many many different types of steroids. Not all of them will begin to break your body down as some of you suggest.

The biggest thing with me is I am bothered by not how big Barry is, but when he got that big. At a time when he should be slowing down, he is stronger and in better shape than when he was in his "prime". Maybe he is a late bloomer?

Also, as far as being tested--give me a break. A guy could shoot a CC of Deca into his *** cheek on monday, and buy the right over the counter masking agents at GNC, drink enough cranberry juice, etc...and test negative on Friday. I have seen it happen. So if/when he tests he wont test positive. The only way athletes get caught is if they are not prepared.
