This may be true, but we'll see how spring training goes. While AA may be the best place for him in the long run, as he probably won't be contending for a spot for a little while, he'll probably end up in AAA., because I don't think he will understand why AA is the best place. Only time will tell though.

This is why I think signing Renteria was a mistake. Hanley is going to be better than him by, at the latest, 2007, especially at Renteria's career production level sans 2003. And he will cost, say, $9.6 million less. A stopgap would've been fine.

You can't forget George Kottaras... I can't wait to see what he can do at a higher level. Also, Sean Thompson could make an impact too.

I can't wait to see what my good buddy KC Herren can do if called up.

Re: Minor Leaguer On The Move

Washington GM Jim Bowden designated 2B Alejandro Machado for assignment today. Theo traded for him, and the Nationals will get a PTBNL in return. He doesn't have any power at all, but he plays good defense, is fast, and really knows how to get on-base. At Class A last year he hit .355/.424/.466 with 10 doubles, and a BB/K ratio of 0.81 in 186 AB's.

In Harrisburg (AA) he hit .280/.363/.353 with an even better BB/K ratio of 1.05 in 346 AB's. Should start the year in Portland, with Hanley at short. Pedroia should start the year in Wilmington and move to Portland once Hanley gets the call up.

This is a very good move, and Jim Bowden continues to show why he is one of the five worst GM's in baseball.
