    Yankees after Beltran

Hmm....who would have thought the Yankees would go after a star player in their prime?

    </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
The Marlins are kicking around the idea of acquiring Royals CF Carlos Beltran for prospects, then shipping Beltran to the Yankees for RHP Jose Contreras, assuming the Yankees would pay nearly all of the approximately $20 million that Contreras is owed through 2006. The Marlins would use Contreras as a reliever, going with RHP Chad Fox, Contreras and RHP Armando Benitez in the late innings after Fox returns from an elbow injury--a significant upgrade for a bullpen that began the week 12th in the National League in ERA. A more realistic trade could involve Marlins OF Abraham Nunez and Royals RH reliever Jason Grimsley. . . .

I think my four year old nephew predicted this one a few months ago

It's depressing thinking about the yankees getting everyone but oh well. This is the Yankees world, we just live in it.

I don't want the Yankees making any trades accept for a pitcher.

I don't see that happening. How could anyone in there right minds in the Marlins organization make this deal, Beltran for Contreras, that would be a waste of prospects for the Marlins, a steal for the Yankees, and probably get someone in Florida fired.
I do believe that the Marlins will make a trade with the Royals, but i'm thinking more along the lines of Jason Grimsley or Curtis Leskanic.
For the Yankees the only way they get Beltran this season is to get a third team invovled in any deal, the Yankees don't have the prospects the Royals are looking for.
i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Last night on SportsCenter Harold Reynolds said that Beltran would end up with the White Soxs.

As a Soxs fan I'd welcome the trade in a heartbeat. Even though we need a starter more than we need a bat. But you can't pass on a player like Beltran.

Then again, before the season started, Reynolds was the same guy who predicated that the White Soxs would finish 4th in the division, behind the Twins, Royals AND INDIANS!?
So whatever he says I take with a grain of salt.
