I'd have to agree. The yankees need another solid pitcher desparately and not just to solidify their rotation. If KBrown goes down for any length of time (and history tells us that he inevitably will), it will be devastating for the yanks if they have to rely on scrubs in their rotation for any length of time.

New York is also relying heavily on their offense right now and we all know offenses go into slumps (look at the beginning of the season) and if their rotation can't compensate they'll be in trouble. That and Torre, while one of the best managers in baseball, abuses his good relievers so they could use another arm in the pen to lighten the workload for Gordon, Rivera, and Quantril and I'm not convinced Steve Karsay is the answer.

I don't see that happening. How could anyone in there right minds in the Marlins organization make this deal, Beltran for Contreras, that would be a waste of prospects for the Marlins, a steal for the Yankees, and probably get someone in Florida fired.
I do believe that the Marlins will make a trade with the Royals, but i'm thinking more along the lines of Jason Grimsley or Curtis Leskanic.
For the Yankees the only way they get Beltran this season is to get a third team invovled in any deal, the Yankees don't have the prospects the Royals are looking for.
i guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's what I was thinking too. Why would the Marlins want to deal Prospects, get a great outfielder, then trade him away for a struggling pitcher.

I guess it is because they have Pierre at center, but you would think they would get someone better then Contreras. Contreras for Beltran doesn't seem like a fair deal to me.

San Diego has some pretty decent prospects to offer as well. With the signing of Matt Bush, who they don't believe will spend a lot of time in the minors, makes one of two players expendable: 3B Sean Burroughs and AA 2B Josh Barfield, Bush, who is a Shortstop, could be moved to either position, which allows the Padres to trade one of those guy's, Burroughs only if the Royals include 3B Joe Randa in the deal, also the Royals seem to be interested in OF Xavier Nady, who really does not have a place with the team right now, and the Padres can afford to part with a Pitcher or two if need be.
But, i don't think they make the deal unless they think they can re-sign Beltran at the end of the season.

And a quick note on the Yankees: the team needs another starting Pitcher, they would like to get a lefty to fill the spot, so don't be surprised to hear Jamie Moyers name come up over the next few weeks.

Burroughs is not expendable... I've heard the rumor between Burroughs and Nady for Beltran and Randa and KT would be hung for that. Burroughs is a very popular player and is not worth giving up for a two-three month rental that gets us a below average third basemen. Don't look for the Padres getting Beltran, I'd rather see them use those prospects they have for some other players.

Another note, Barfield is as good as gone there is a trade.
