    Re: Yankees after Beltran

Burroughs is not expendable... I've heard the rumor between Burroughs and Nady for Beltran and Randa and KT would be hung for that. Burroughs is a very popular player and is not worth giving up for a two-three month rental that gets us a below average third basemen. Don't look for the Padres getting Beltran, I'd rather see them use those prospects they have for some other players.

Another note, Barfield is as good as gone there is a trade.

      Re: Yankees after Beltran

With Mussina exiting the game against the Padres tonight early with a strained groin it looks less and less likely the Yankees will deal for Beltran. What little talent they have to deal is going towards pitching. And with 2/5 of their rotation (their best 2/5) possibly missing a few starts they may not even be able to deal Contreras unless they think Tanyon Sturtze can do better than him. I doubt Mussina will go on the DL, and we've been told Brown won't, but I would still expect George to start scrambling for some pitching. And one possible pitching aquisition went down yesterday in Tomo Ohka so that leaves Kris Benson and Freddy Garcia as the front runners.

If the Padres could sign Beltran to a multi-year contract, they would send Burroughs, Nady and possibly Klesko to KC for Beltran and Randa in a heart beat. Might have to toss in a pitching prospect, but they are pretty deep with young pitchers also.

does anyone think the yanks might give up some of their offense for a marquee pitcher

                        eg..sheffield for pavano type trade?
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

None of Boras's clients have signed a multi-year contract with a team that they were traded to before in their final year of their contract. I'm not counting on it because the Padres will surely lose Beltran in free agency if the slim chances of resigning Beltran doesn't happen all because of Boras. Burroughs (can only get better), Nady (has yet to prove himself), Klesko (does he still have it), plus pitching prospects is a little too much for Beltran and Randa... one star player and a mediocre player.
