And it'll make future trade deadlines more interesting. 2 teams who had 8 game leads at the trade deadline, got beat out by teams who made big splashes, and were reduced to playing a 1 game playoff to make it in to the ALDS. And one of those teams who was trailing by 8 games for division lead, is guaranteed to be in the ALCS.

Ummm, the Astros traded for Carlos Gomez. Maybe not the biggest fish in the pond, but they didn't totally stand pat either. Toss in Mike Fiers if you want to. I also don't think any team is going to reevaluate their entire thought process after a single occurrence.

Kazmir didn't really work out the way they planned it, but he was another acquisition.

Royals-Astros will be a wildly entertaining series that will likely give me severe chest pains.

Don't get me wrong, I get that more excitement is generated and regardless of my feelings on it it is not changing.

But with that said, it still doesn't sit well with me that between teams that are now tied after 163, one is eliminated and one moves on.

The fifth team isn't going anywhere anytime soon and these two teams might not be the best counter argument but at some point down the road were going to see a second wild card team who was the second spot but behind 5 games win the 1 game playoff and that's when change will happen.

It seems like it's this year's fastest team in baseball vs. last year's fastest team in baseball.

The thing i'm most looking forward to seeing is how the "swing for the fences and damn the strikeout" philosophy does against a team that will run you out of the ballpark and play small ball to get runs across the board.

Unfortunately, that's already happened. Just as expected.

When in doubt, stick with the casinos to make predictions on these 1-game affairs. All of Vegas had the Astros as a very slight favorite against NY. They all have the Cubs as a slightly bigger favorite against PIT. The Goat bahhhs in Vegas' general direction...

When a certain poster on here has to incessantly remind people every October how much he hates the Wild Card game, yes, he really does need to accept it and move on. It was meant to be tongue-and-cheek anyways.

Personally, I love the Wild Card game. Win your division or suffer the consequences. Wild Card teams in the old format had it too easy: look at a team like the Marlins who have two championships and no division titles in their history. It might be the only thing Bug Selig ever did that I agreed with.

Heh. The very first wild card game had the 88-74 Cards beating the 94-68 Braves in Atlanta. So you might be waiting awhile for change.

It was a typo. I meant to say 7 game difference.
