The official website of the Chicago Cubs with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.
man...
honestly glad I'm not the GM of either team. That's a lie, totally would love to be. Making this decision would surely take years off my life.
This article considers the "grand slam" option to be Archer/McGee/Kiermaier for Schwarber/Baez/McKinney/Torres
This does not seem like a grand slam for the Cubs...getting Archer would, of course, be awesome. I'm not buying the Kiermaier hype, though...not with a hundred strikeouts and an OBP less than 300.
I understand that he and Schwarber are light years apart in the field, but they are equally so at the plate, and I don't believe the Cubs can sustain that blow. Schwarber is the best contact hitter on the team, and potentially the only one.
Archer/McGee for Soler and Baez and Vogelbach...yes...maybe more.
I'd prefer the Cubs hand onto Soler AND Schwarber for one more year, though.Last edited by fugazi; 01-14-2016, 10:32 AM.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
It's too bad they don't have the DH rule in the NL because if they did I don't think Schwarber's name would be involved in any kind of huge trade talk. The guy is an all-world talent at the plate and is a contact hitter amongst a collection of guys who swing and miss a lot. Schwarber's the kind of guy you try to keep in your lineup for as long as you can. He has power and can hit for average and will be solid as a rock for the long term.
The idea of getting Archer is mighty tempting though and Kiermier, while he isn't as strong of a hitter gives you gold glove type defense in the OF.
It's certainly a trade proposal that at least warrants a lot of thought.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
