Not really. Like most have said the Angels have no farm system, especially after the Andrelton Simmons deal.

Their top prospect is RHP Joe Gatto, which according to BP is only a 50/80, same grade for RHP Victor Alcantara...

Jays and Donaldson are just 450k apart, so should expect to hear deal being reached shortly.

Could also be the start of some more moves for the Jays. Best case scenario for them is avoiding arbitration completely, and spending 2M less than projected.
Man I really don't think this thread cares about the Jays' arbitration whatsoever, lol.

Cespy at 5/90 is an absolute steal. Really hope the O's don't get him.

Yea this thread would be at least 20 pages longer if we cared about arbitration decisions. Whether they be who filed for what, parties avoiding arbitration by agreeing to a contract.

            1. There are always lower level guys that you've never heard of that other teams are hot for. I'm sure the Angels have enough firepower to make a deal. There are guys beyond the Top 100 guys.

            2. LAA has a surplus of youngish major league pitching to deal from. No one super excellent, but they have a bunch of decent starters and depth (Richards, Shoemaker, Skaggs, Santiago, Heaney, Weaver, Wilson, Tropeano). They could always drop a pitcher on Colorado.

            3. You have to factor in Colorado actually wanting to trade CarGo, his declining skills, and his contract. It's not as simple as "since CarGo is nice, there needs to be xx Top 100 prospects dealt for him." His Steamer projection says 1.6 WAR and he's making $17MM this year. That's no surplus value at all (before accounting for his $20MM next year and huge home/road split) and perhaps even a slightly negative asset depending on your math.

I buy the argument more that LAA is not interested rather than the argument they don't have the ponies to make a deal.

They could use a LH bat though.

God Cargo is such a bad asset irl. I forget who I used to argue about that with constantly lol but even with his season last year, 2.5 war or whatever. I don't think I'd trade Tropeano or Skaggs for him.

I know no one cares about arbitration but this does set up the question as to the biggest gap all time but apparently the Cubs and Arrieta are 5.5 million dollars apart in their figures.

I think Arrieta's being reasonable and Cubs are lowballing. Doesn't matter, they'll settle.

I'd cut it right down the middle. Not that it will go to an arbitration hearing, but Chicago should've offered more like $9-10MM. $13MM is a bit high of an ask in this arbitration system even for the season Arrieta had. Tough to find a precedent for him though.

Love me some Jake Arrieta, but I don't think the Cubs should try to get him on a long term deal just yet. They need to see how his arm responds and bounces back from a career high workload before giving him the godfather offer.

Davis is back. 7 years 161 million. Looks like Cespedes was a leverage play...this probably isn't gonna end well but much better than leaving the offseason empty handed I guess.

Rockies seem inclined to keep CarGo.

The Reds are working on a few more trades. Jay Bruce is one, but the OF market and Colorado's OF cluster is holding that up.

After seeing so much of the team withering away this offseason they HAD to resign Davis. I agree with you though, the back end of that contract isn't going to go down well for the O's but in terms of PR they had to keep him. Hopefully this doesn't turn into your version of the Vernon Wells contract.
