Yeah that's a good deal for the Tigers for sure. If Verlander can bounce back and become even half the pitcher he used to be then it'll be a nice 1-2 combo in the rotation.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I like the length of the deal. Most people assumed he would get 6 years.
Tigers moving through their wishlist. Still left to go: an outfielder, a set up man, a lefty reliever, backup catcher and maybe a cheapo veteran starter to compete with Boyd and Greene for the 5th spot in the rotation.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
On the Happ/Toronto deal... bleh. I don't want Price. He's too much and didn't provide results when we really needed it. Toronto might have had to play a little differently, but they were winning a lot of those games Price didn't start in August and September and that was 80% of the schedule. Happ is a Buehrle replacement if anything.
But paying Happ that much? We were losing that Halladay trade until Doc had to retire because of the way Happ pitched and now to give him $10M+ a year? Estrada had a great year after being pretty average in Milwaukee so it's not impossible that Happ is improved and could provide what Marco did in 2015. But this team still needs a good, reliable, consistent #2 to go up there with Stroman. Sure, it won't cost Price money, but they better be willing to spend $15-$18M a year if necessary to get someone else.Comment

Hate to say it, but this is probably the rotation we're getting in Toronto next season based on the reporting locally. BTW the two finalists for the GM job are Ross Atkins and Tony LaCava per Jon Heyman.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The Braves are interested in bringing Ben Zobrist to be a veteran in the clubhouse for young players.
Because Andrelton Simmons couldn't do that.Comment
