Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I'm curious. What did people think Price was going to sign for? Less than Scherzer?
And to the Blue Jay fans who think this is a massive overpay on Boston's part: you do realize that Toronto's championship window is very small, don't you? The Jays are built to win right now, not 3-5 years from now. This is not the time for fiscal prudence on Toronto's part.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. This is assuming he wouldn't opt out of a similar contract in Toronto because of the guaranteed money he'd have.Last edited by Redacted01; 12-02-2015, 06:14 AM.Comment

I wonder at what point do pitching contracts stop going up. Eventually teams have to learn long term deals at $30 million aren't worth it.MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Like QB contracts in football, fans continue to overreact to pitcher contracts in baseball. The reaction by some is not at all surprising.Comment

Well, my prediction was wrong. 1 million per start is some serious cash.
Highly doubt Price is gonna opt out. Have fun with the back end of that contract. Yankee fans know the feeling.

Yankees made the decision to extend after the player had opted out. Can't compare the two situations just yet.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
BTW DrJones I don't think it's completely a matter of fiscal prudence that kept the Jays from blowing their budget like that but rather the fact that the team is in a precarious situation. The core of this team may get real old real fast if you start throwing money around to keep guys long term. There's also the matter of keeping an eye toward locking up Donaldson to a mega contract when the time comes for that. In short, I think the Jays are somewhat okay right now. As AC pointed out with his projections the starting rotation is on a par with the rotation last year. If the Jays can add decent bullpen arms and perhaps swing a deal for a quality SP than this team will be in good shape for a trade deadline tune up if they're still in the race next year.
It's not ALL doom and gloom though truth be told having Price as the ace to stop losing streaks and such would've been a great thing to have. I'm extremely high on Stroman and think he could bring that kind of mojo to the table.

I think it takes a catastrophic arm injury or serious under performance by one of the elite pitchers with that kind of contract.
