Only thing that concerns me with Heyward is that a lot of his value is tied up in his defense, which is bound to decline the older he gets.

So with Cuddyer retiring now that should free up some money so the Mets can pursue and OF bat. I'd love for them to re-engage on talks for Cespedes but I'd also be ok with them going after someone like Parra or Fowler. Fowler would make some sense because the Mets lack speed in their lineup.

Hopefully Cishek returned to his 2014 form and potentially becomes our closer.

Read it was a two year deal.

I can't believe that we're talking about a 26 year old's defense declining. I've seen this narrative so many times over the last week or so, and I just don't understand it. We aren't talking about a guy that's 34 years old, we're talking about a guy who, if he decides to not opt out (not likely), will finish the contract at 34. He'll undoubtedly lose a step over the years, but this shouldn't even be a conversation for another 4 years. Heyward is an elite defender in his prime years.

The Giles trade is a lot bigger than we thought

PHI Gets: Vincent Velasquez; Mark Appell; Thomas Eshelman; Harold Arauz; Brett Oberholtzer

HOU Gets: Ken Giles; Jonathan Arauz

                Nice haul Philly.

FUN NOTE: 2 players with the last name Arauz are flipping teams
Red Sox: 2018 World Series Champions!!!
                Patriots: 2018 Super Bowl Champions!!!

                Team USA
                Red Sox
                Patriots
                Celtics

                  Mark Appell?

Wow, Houston...guess they want to get rid of them while they can (his peripherals aren't the best in the minors).

Guess Fisher failed his physical. I love this trade still. We fleeced Houston.

Giles isn't even an elite reliever, lol. Market is bonkers right now. Trade Osuna and Cecil!

All of these inflated salaries yet I can barely get a 2% raise at work.

...think I went into the wrong profession.

He sure as hell has the potential to be. 1.56 ERA the last 2 seasons combined.

Not really. Oberholtzer couldn't hang with the starting rotation for the Astros last year.

And I don't know what the definition of an "elite" reliever is, but Giles was pretty damn good. Is that a category?

Andy MacPhail is a wizard when it comes to trades, man. Got us Jones and Tillman for Bedard, got JJ Hardy for Jim Hoey and Brett Jacobson, and Crush for Koji.
