It sounds like it's down to the Cubs or Angels.

I need to see the financials to know if I like this or not. I like Heyward. I don't like $200MM worth of Heyward.

Wittenmeyer getting the same chatter as Goold. Seems legit.

              Reportedly less than $200M.

We'll see how much less, if true.

Cubs aren't done according to Joel Sherman. They're now looking to trade for Starting pitcher...

Soler is most likely going to get dealt IMO.

Might be going for a SP and a CF, while intending Heyward in RF. I'm of the mind that even if Heyward can play a good CF (almost certainly he can), why mess with him being a gold glover in RF?

Furthermore, I expect the Cubs to trade one of Schwarber or Soler and they're probably taking offers for Jason Hammel as well. Dealing Hammel's contract ($9MM with team option for '17) will help soften the impact of the Heyward signing on the budget.

It would be fantastic if they can find someone to take Hammel and his contract.

Why wouldn't they put Heyward in center to maximize his defensive value and trade Baez instead since they have Zobrist at 2nd and Russell at short now?

LOL. With the money guys like J.A. Happ are getting, there'd be no shortage of suitors. They need to get Stew on the phone ASAP.

Hammel faded down the stretch, but he actually had a really good year for a #3. Amazing K-BB rates and a slightly elevated HR-rate. 2.4 fWAR is a steal for what he's making in this crazy, crazy market.

I guess because although, in theory, Heyward could be an all-world CF, it's not proven. We KNOW he's dynamite in RF. And if you put an unproven guy in CF and he's just OK and you've got Schwarber prancing around in LF and Soler in RF (not the best corner OF'ers you can find), it could get ugly.
