The whole concept of 'tanking' is a silly idea to even invoke in baseball. Taking teams to task over a rebuilding strategy that's been proven to turn teams around and punish them for it would be idiotic. There are many reasons why willful 'tanking' doesn't exist in baseball and anyone who thinks it's a problem hasn't really been paying attention to how teams are being built lately (Mets, Cubs, Royals, Rangers, Astros....). Maybe some people are just salty that their teams suck periodically? Maybe some fan bases have been stricken with chronic prospect envy? I know we had loads of turncoats in the Cubs fan base in the 1-2 years after Theo took over. Funny how they've all gone quiet...

If you look at the value that draft picks hold.

If you trade off a 2 win player. That's an $18 million dollar asset, give or take, less salary. That would probably bump your draft position one or two spots.

The only position in which the difference between the picks is greater than the player you are dealing (accounting for likely salary and return in the deal), is at the very top of the draft. The difference between the 13th pick and 17th pick is like $3 million.

That's pointless when you would have a larger cost (harder time) replacing the player you traded than actually gaining a tangible benefit from the pick upgrade you get.

Tanking will never be an issue in baseball, beyond natural selection of teams, so to speak.

Gallardo to the Orioles is done. 3/35 with a $13 million option for the fourth year. Hate giving up the pick, but he's only going to have to be worth roughly 5 WAR over the three years to be worth it.

It will be interesting to see if they sign Fowler in the next couple days like has been speculated the last 2 weeks.

It looks like it's gonna happen.

Still can't believe my eyes...never in a million years would I have thought that Angelos would change his ways and commit serious resources to the team, and now we've spent over $200 million this offseason with more potentially being spent. We're going for it, and I love it.
