Jesus is our only capable 1B right now. We might already have a replacement in mind though so it could happen. And Carson Smith is gonna be a valuable bullpen piece for years to come. He's worth a lot more than Wade Miley IMO, although I haven't looked at his numbers last year.

I like when DiPoto makes deals, especially if they better the team.

Ummm yea they traded Smith and Elias for Miley and some **** bag reliever with a 6.97 ERA in 10 games pitched.

Boy was I wrong lmao. I must've been WAY too high on Smith.

        Smith and Elias for Miley.

Now we're targeting Adam Lind of the brewers

Probably a bit of both lol.

I read that over the last 4 years, Miley has been better than Kuma, who has been above average as eell.

            Miley's WAR: 10.1
            Kuma's WAR: 9.3

WAR is an accumulated stat. Iwakuma is much more skilled.

Probably the reason the deal fell through today. Hard to imagine he gets dealt now, unless he is fully cleared.

                        Oh my.

The Reds can't go the NFL route and cut him as they're on the hook for his entire salary. I'm quite curious what they'll do or even what MLB does.

The agreement, announced jointly by the commissioner's office and the players' union, has been in the works since last year, following a series of domestic violence cases involving NFL players.

"The commissioner can place a player accused of domestic violence, sexual assault or child abuse on paid "administrative leave" for up to seven days before a disciplinary decision, which can be appealed to the sport's arbitration panel, chaired by an independent arbitrator. The commissioner also may defer a discipline decision until the resolution of criminal charges.

Suspensions that are upheld are without pay, and there are no maximum or minimum penalties. Players will not receive service time for the period of the suspension.

Players can be suspended with pay while criminal charges are pending if the commissioner determines "allowing the player to play during the pendency of the criminal or legal proceeding would result in substantial or irreparable harm to either the club or Major League Baseball." If the discipline becomes an unpaid suspension, the player has the right to offset the time served against the penalty but must repay any salary he received from his team during the paid suspension."

It isn't a matter of IF Baez is gone, it is WHEN, just as I expected before the season.

Cubs better sell now while the iron is hot. Another season or two and the mystique will have worn off and clubs will start to figure out he can't hit consistently at the major league level.

Hope they can get what we need and keep Soler. The one guy I don't want going anywhere just yet.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather see Soler go than Baez. Soler was a glorified singles hitter this year who plays poor defense and provides nothing on the bases.

Baez showed some major adjustments at the plate to make more contact, though he did still have a 30% strikeout rate. He's a plus defender and a very good baserunner.
