Plan is to keep Jansen and Chapman, who instantly team to become one of the game’s most dominant late-inning duos (if not the most dominant late-inning duo). The trade is pending medical reviews.

      Edit:
Stating the obvious but DeLeon, Urias, Seager NOT in the deal. Also just saw this from Jon Morosi on Twitter.

Why haven't major OF free agents signed yet? "Everybody's waiting for Zobrist," one agent told me.
— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) December 7, 2015

That's interesting for sure. I thought Arizona or Houston is where he'd end up.

I've read that the Dodgers are interested in Jose Fernandez so maybe Jansen is part of a package that gets Fernandez to LA?

Miami asked for Urias and Seager... That's not gonna happen.

They asked the Dbacks for Patrick Corbin plus other pieces. Probaly Shipley and Blair.

Joakim Soria signs with Royals. Building that great bullpen.

Janssen being a "me first" guy eh? I'd gladly step down to a setup role if it means helping the Dodgers win a championship. If the Dodgers have to move him then really, they're in the same boat as they were last year but with a more dominant closer.

I love when guys say this. It's really easy to say you'd gladly step down when you'll never actually have to experience being replaced.

Jansen's an awesome closer in his own right and single-handedly prevented the Dodgers' bullpen from being a radioactive train wreck. Hard to blame him for not taking a demotion well.

We'll see if Chapman (or Jansen) sticks around, anyways. Friedman is a depth-over-stars/80% of the performance for 20% of the cost GM (which is why he drew a red line at $160 million for Greinke and allowed Arizona to swoop him), so if this is a trade that sets up another trade, I wouldn't be surprised.

The Cubs resigned Trevor Cahill for 4.25M for one year.

He'll be stretched out and in the mix for a starter role, but likely to end up in the bullpen. Not a bad deal if he can have the same success in the pen as he did late in the season.

Not to mention that elite closers get paid more than elite set up men. Not so black and white I guess, but it's more than a simple choice to either be a "me-first guy" or a "team-first guy."
