I heard earlier today that the Phillies were 6 games over .500 for the first time since 2011...it doesn't feel that long ago that they were the kings of the NL East, and it doesn't look like it will be long until they are right back in the thick of things.

Cards get another pinch HR in the 9th (their 8th already), but it's not enough for the comeback.

I'd agree if they were winning games because of hot bats. That would not be sustainable at all. But they are winning because of excellent pitching and defense. That makes it a little more realistic for me to think they can continue this.

I am still not expecting playoffs this year, but after losing 99 games last year I sure as hell wasn't expecting this kind of turn around already.

This is true. 7 games over .500 now.

              http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts...ition=BaseRuns

BaseRuns, which strips out situational effects, thinks the Phillies have played like a .400 team so far. So while the Phillies have been a nice story, their record is mostly a mirage. The offense is terrible (69 wRC+) and they still need like 5 more quality hitters on that team.

The starting pitching is awesome though and gives them a higher floor than people thought. The roots are there for a turnaround.

Ortiz is the oldest player since 1900 with a 3B, 2B, and HR in the same game.

Man, I hope Rupp isn't concussed after that great catch last night to end the game. He's a beast backstop.

That throw from Goeddel was insane...a flyball like that is usually a routine sac fly. Just an unreal throw and just as good a play by Rupp to hold onto it.

Just a single away from the cycle...man that's great. Never thought I would say that about Ortiz.

Ortiz hit a triple? The Sawx playing in Yellowstone?

Hanley bunting with two outs in the bottom of the 9th with Ortiz on 3rd in a tie game was the highlight of yesterday's game for me.

3-run ding dong for Xander Bogaerts. 6-3 Red Sox after 2.
