I remember two years ago (year they lost to the Giants in the NLDS) the Nats put Strasburg and Harper on waivers
    Chicago Cubs
    Michigan Wolverines

    Thanks Peyton. #18

Right, almost every player is put on waivers. We only hear about those who cleared waivers. I don't get it but it's been done that way for years.

Come to think of it, McCutchin could be a waiver deal. I don't think he would clear waivers but with his production compared to his contract he might.

Teams have NOTHING to lose by putting guys on waivers...every year Chipper Jones was put on waivers as well. Teams can make an offer and then you can pull the guy back - it's just a way to see what offers are out there and if something bowls you over, you might do it.

Oh I understand that, I just don't see the point of even entertaining it for someone you have no intention of shipping off regardless of the return.

Ya, I guess teams are curious what kind of value a player has, if only for future considerations. I remember the Braves' announcers used to mention every year when Chipper was placed on waivers and chuckle over it...like he was going anywhere.

I'd guess McCann gets thrown out there. He's just another older vet blocking a young MLB-ready Yanks prospect.

I hope Miami chokes and they lose every game the rest of the season.

Still can't believe AJ took him back, lost a little respect for him for allowing him to get bullied, although it was a "good guy" move.

You know what Casey Stengel says about good/nice guys...

Cubs will take care of the next three for ya

Im still not entirely sure if anyone's at fault here, but the guys on MLBN were saying that you kinda get a bad rep in the business if you try to pull something like this (not saying Preller/the Pads knew about anything, but if they did it may affect their ability to make deals in the future)

I get that, but as I said earlier, if this is a pre-existing condition where is Miami's responsibility to do a thorough medical exam? I personally think it's ridiculous...

Then Loria should fire his entire medical staff

I thought I remembered OS banning ip addresses in the past? Probably just temp or not a viable option anymore with mobile devices and easy ways to reset or get a new address.

From the A's, I'm surprised Rzepczynski didn't draw interest. Lefty reliever with playoff experience on top is usually a commodity.
