And now 2017 NL ROY Cody Bellinger is getting benched for "not hustling?"

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts pulled Cody Bellinger in the fifth inning Sunday, citing a lack of hustle after Bellinger hit a ball into "Triples Alley." Bellinger, for his part, was surprised by the benching but understood "he's trying to prove a point."

What is this world coming to?
What's more interesting is that Bellinger didn't know why he got pulled...Roberts has to explain that.

I remember Bobby pulling Andruw Jones in 1998 I believe for dogging it, not diving for a ball he felt Andruw could catch. Bobby laid into him in the hallway and Andruw got upset...but later realized he had a load of talent and Bobby expected him to play up to it and not take the easy way

Kind of think the high school mentality shouldn't be part of the game. Bellinger got a double. Relax.

Yeah I side with Bellinger here. He said he held up because he didn't want to be thrown out at 3rd. I didn't see the play, but a manager has to trust his players.

Part of it could be Roberts is feeling some pressure from the uppers due to the rough start they've had, so he's trying to overmanage.

The big thing with Bobby was he pulled Andruw in the middle of the inning...you NEVER see a manager do that (considered embarrassing for the player). In hindsight, however, Andruw has said that was one of the best things that happened to him. It's what made Bobby so great though...guy knew how to get the best out of his players.

You're on the ignore list now. I'm done reading posts of you belittling people for having a different opinion or view than you do. You always have to chime in. My post was meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek.

            Stop. Just Stop.

If the Yankees rotation just pitches slightly above average, that is a juggernaut team. Holy cow, they're good and they're deep, plus they have a ridiculously deep farm system to use in case they need to make moves.

Oh hell no. I side with Dave Roberts on this one. He was admiring his 400ft shot jogging to first...jogging around 1st....if he takes off and hustles he is at 3rd base in all likely hood.

This team is below .500 and jogging with your bat in your hand admiring your shot to the deepest part of the field instead of flying out of the box and running hard till someone tells you....it's a HR is unacceptable. I don't let my boys get away with that crap in 13-14 old Travel and Middle School ball.

I hope he learned his lesson. And his answer to the media was freaking weak sauce. He had absolutely no hustle on that double....that shows you how high and deep that ball was traveling that he was basically able to run half speed to second standing up. If he is going full tilt rounding first he will pick his third base coach up waving him on.....but that was never going to happen with his half *** run down the first base line with his freaking bat in his hand seeing if he hit a dinger.

Absolute garbage hustle and kudos to Roberts sitting his *** down. And he did not know why he was pulled?

I guarantee you he knows now.

Strong message to a team underachieving right now. A damn good message IMO.

Having a runner on 3rd with 0 out is a lot different than 2nd with 0 out...it almost feels like an automatic run. Getting doubled off at 2nd in that same inning probably added fuel to the fire with Roberts.

I can see both sides of the Bellinger/Roberts issue. On the one hand, Bellinger is probably thinking "smart baseball" move and just take the double down 4-0. I don't know that he would have made 3rd...

On the other hand, watching the video that follows him the entire way, he was not running hard at all. He actually carried the bat with him 3/4 of the way down to first and never broke above a light jog getting into 2nd. He wasn't hustling at all, so I can see why Roberts pulled him.

If it's a consistent issue, I see benching him. The trot was egregious here, but I wouldn't want one of my guys benched for an isolated incident. Roberts said he's talked to him about if before, so I don't have much issue with it. Looked like a triple standing up if he's gunning it.

With Seager done for the year, now I think you start to question if the Dodgers are a playoff team or not. Time will tell. Maybe Matt Kemp to the rescue?

I think this is the key. Dave Roberts said it's something that's been a recurring issue. It sounds like this was just the breaking point for him.

The Dodgers need Dave Roberts to sub himself into one of these games to steal a key base in a rivalry game. That should get them fired up.
