Or perhaps this will top all the trades mentioned recently in this thread. Forget being traded in the middle of a series, or during a doubleheader, what if he was traded right before first pitch! After the Jays pull him from the game, he takes off his jersey and reveals a Yankees jersey and joins their dugout lol.

Or perhaps Yankees have just been scouting him like crazy, telling their guys to look for certain things.

Is the Cub bullpen worn out? Chatwood coming out after 120 pitches...just shocked Joe left him in that long and pitching as ineffectively as he was.

I'm beyond the point of caring that the Cubs can't seem to beat the Reds.

But, sadly, what isn't shocking is Chatwood pitching as ineffectively as he was. If it weren't for the corpse of Yu Darvish's right arm, Chatwood would be the Cubs' worst signing.

IOW, he was the same pitcher, despite what his W-L record or ERA said.
I think a lot of Cubs fans were skeptical (including me) of Chatwood and him having one of the worst BB rates in the game (even before it doubled to GTFO territory). There were a lot of counterarguments made about splits and how his breaking stuff would be nasty away from Coors, how he was so athletic and could hit and play defense. Signing him to a 3 year $39M deal to be a #5 starter on a team where he wouldn't even make the playoff roster didn't really seem too terrible at the time. Now that his ERA and FIP have finally snapped into line at ~5, it doesn't seem like it was good either. At least he gives us a whipping boy now that Jason Heyward is hitting.

As for Darvish, many of us were higher on him for sure. I remember thinking signing him and cutting bait on Arrieta seemed like a good thing to do. That the amount he signed for was somewhat of a bargain. So far, that's not bearing out. First he was terrible, and how he seems to be really hurt. As I've mentioned before, I doubt he throws another pitch for the big league club this season--visions of Mark Prior snapping a towel on a perpetual rehab assignment are hard to shake with this one.

I was really high on Chatwood. Part of it was watching him pitch a lot here at Coors, and the other part was getting to know him over a few winters in California.

I was way off. I don't think anyone expected this.

But the injury history is part of Darvish. I had reservations about him because 1) he has the injury history and 2) he looked really bad at the end of last year. Arrieta, on the other hand, doesn't have the injury history, and while he isn't pitching at his 2015 level this year, he isn't breaking down and is going out there every 5th day.

6 walks by Happ. Gibbons and Sabathia have both been ejected; both have had words with the ump about the strike zone.

Arrieta isn't missing any bats. has a career low K/9 and while he's still able to be a decent pitcher in spite of it I'm fine walking away from that one. I'm still fine with the Darvish signing. barring he can come back healthy because pre injury the results weren't good but i really wasn't worried about him in the slightest. Just hope he comes back healthy.

A combination of bad luck and ****ty umpiring cost Happ today. I watched every pitch Happ threw today. The man was around the plate for the most part. There is no conceivable way he should've been credited with 6 walks. The HP umpires in both games this series have had a strike zone the size of a postage stamp.

I don't think this will hurt Happ TOO much trade value wise. He did get ambushed in the 1st inning and that hit in the OF probably wouldn't have resulted in those 2 RBI if Pillar played it more conservatively.

Either way, got to credit the Yanks for taking advantage. It seems the ball is jumping a bit today.

These days, I think most people don't bat an eyelash about a guy who had 1 TJ operation (I think it's only 1 for him, yes?). It's the multiple-surgery guys who are more a concern. I will give you the end of last season part though. I was willing to mostly overlook that, but in retrospect maybe it was a larger problem than just getting beat up by a championship-caliber team in a small sample size.

Cubs have rallied from down 7-2 to tie the game 7-7 in the 8th, Zobrist 90 feet away as the go ahead run with only one out.

And he scores on an Rizzo groundout. Some weirdness before that with Riggleman trying to make two consecutive mound visits and the umpire not allowing the pitching change (I think?).

And now Morrow will come on for the save.

John Gibbons has been ejected for the 49th time in his career.

If he gets ejected 1 more, he'll join the elusive 50 ejection club. Only 16 managers as of 2017 have reached that(according to wikipedia). Not sure if any have reached that mark since, but if not, Gibbons would be #17.

Trivia time for people here. Name all the ACTIVE managers on that 50+ ejection list.
