    Sanchez is a real Centerfielder.

    Also, they have young pitching.

I have a feeling Bonderman is going to be a big time player for them this season. Maroth is a good #3 starter. Ledezma looked dominant at points last season, and Robertson was a great strikeout pitcher last year. Jason Johnson also is a solid contributor. The Tigers also have several young pitchers that could be ready in the next 1-2 years, headlined by Kenny Baugh, Kyle Sleeth (03 first rounder from Wake Forest) and Justin Verlander their first round pick in 2004 out of Rice. Sleeth (6'5") and Verlander (6'5") are both big, hard-throwing right handers that project as ace-type pitchers. Alan Trammell is a heckuva manager. The future is very bright for Detroit.

Don't count on Kenny Baugh. He blew his arm and I am hearing that he is only topping out around 88mph with his fastball.

The Tigers need someone more consistent than Sanchez. Yes, I know that the Tigers have some young pitching, but if there is one thing you can't have enough of in baseball, its talented young pitching.

                  Re: Magglio to the Tigers?

I think the Tigers might end up regretting this signing once it's in the back years of the contract. When healthy Mags is a terrific player but I already see a couple of warning signs. The most obvious is the injury and the second is that his BA, OBP, SLG, and OPS have dropped 3 straight seasons.

Not trying to start an argument, especially about the Tigers, but Sanchez was more than adequate. While he was injured for most, if not all, of the 2nd half of 2004, he was very productive during the time he was in the lineup.

In 70 games he hit .322 with 19 steals. His one downfall may be his ability to draw a walk, where he had only 7 in 332 AB's. His K's were also rather high with 50 in the same span of at-bats. While maybe not the prototypical leadoff man with his high strikeout numbers, his OBP was far from terrible at .335.

In an improved Tiger lineup with Carlos Guillen/Pudge/Magglio hitting directly behind him, Sanchez should put up acceptable numbers if he can do one thing--stay healthy.

I'm not saying this because I am a Tiger's slappy, but I don't know that I've ever seen a contract with more outs. This is a good deal.

Perhaps I don't know all the details of his contract but I thought the Tigers can only void the contract if he suffers a major injury in the first year of the deal? After that the Tigers have the option of giving him a buyout after year 5.
