Yes what you said was childish....when your only explanation to modern medicine and equipment your answer was simply roids. I know HS kids that could have come up with a better thought out explanation than just roids.

Furthermore, I dont need to know you, nor do I wish to know you. You seem like that guy in the bar who has a smart-a$$ reply to anything anyone has to say. Everyone else on this thread didnt spark a fire under me because they actually came up with a solid rebutal/discussion in most cases...

The MLBPA strongest union...Well why not just throw every Large sports Union in there also? NFL, NBA, NHL (for whatevere they're worth)...I dont agree they're the strongest union especially when theres 3 other unions right in the vincinity. Once again you dont look beyond the scope of things. There could be a much better argued case for the Shoreman's Union which cost the country a few years back Millions of dollars a day....Steel Union is another that can be made a strong case for. Are you literally saying the MLBPA controls the prices of tickets??? WTF!!! Thats the owner's job to approve a ticket price increase or decrease...Owners decide who to pay and what to pay....why do you think Beltran didnt get the 10yr 200Mil contract he was asking for?? Because the owners decide everything...I didnt see the MLBPA come out and publicly say Beltran is deserving of the contract we say you pay him...

Do I think modern medicine has improved over the years.... YES!!
Fitness is Fitness??? You're 30+ you said. You have to be off your rocker to even sit here and say our modern day weights and knowledge of the human anatomy has not increased strength and endurance of our players today. Even the knowledge of vitamins and supplements were not known back in the 1950-1960...Guys in that day an age rarely worked out because they thought WEIGHTS WOOULD SLOW THEM DOWN with bat speed and on the bases!!!

Medicine itself has come along way...TOMMY JOHN SURGERY is one thing and it becoming a career saving procedure...Arthroscopic surgery which was not present till the early 90's..Just the simple ability to treat and diagnose injuries especially MCL/ACL injuries. All these helping the modern ball player play more games....I cant believe your only thought of major change is clubhouses and video enchancements...

Does anyone in this thread think this guy is fighting a losing battle?? Or is it just me

Youre on point. I was just watching Hardball and theres all these panelists who attribute the increase in HRs to everything but weightlifting and improved/year around training. This Celizic fool rattled off pitching, ballparks, juiced baseball...and steroids. He made no mention of what you are alluding to. The fact is that if you look at a player in the 80s vs an average player in the 90s its easy to see an improved level of fitness/strength. This gets buried under all the steroid hysteria. Not everyone is on steroids but almost everyone is far more committed to training than the ball players of the 80s and this goes to what you said. Basketball players also used to avoid lifting for a similar reason. In any case, if the guy is scoffing at your point about improved training, yeah, he wont win because there is no denying that.

Congressman Shays is taking a shotgun to the MLB lawyer Manfred right now. And Selig seems to running as far away from this situation as possible.

This is some of the best testimony of the day.

Guys, did you know Waxman was the congressman who handed the Cheney-Enron-Energy matter off to the GAO-- at least I think thats right.

OK this uniform law they speak of makes me concerned it may strengthen baseball but fall short of what exists in football. I like the NFLs testing for the most part except there are some suspensions that are disproportionate relative to others.

That guy is a beast, plain and simple, and has the best hand eye coordination in the history of pro baseball, and thats not because of steroids.

And what makes him even more AMAZING is that it took him til age 35 to REALLY get that 'hand eye coordination' down.

His best 5 years of his career we're his last 5. Imaging when he's 45! That guy will really be great! ...unless there really is a steroid policy...

Oh and McGwire gets my vote for asshat of the day. He just wants to dwell on the positive. Let's talk about birdies, and rabbits and happy things. Ol' Marky thought there was too much negativity in the room.

I believed one guy up there, Palmeiro. Even Schilling was weak and seems like he had a good 'talking to' from the Union boys. Too funny. There will be so much more to come out, this is not the end.

                          Holy Moly!

Chris Shays made Rob Manfred look like an incompetant boob and furthermore took him from being a cocky, arrogant guy to becoming a sniveling little whiny brat!

The last panel was the most damning of them all. I can't believe that MLB announces agreements and contracts when they haven't even been committed to paper. It also seems that MLB has witheld information by not even submitting the latest draft of the policy as well. The testimony makes me wonder if the Keystone Kops are running baseball.

I"m glad that Waxman suggested that Selig should be out of the job. I think if there isn't any action done then 1 of 2 things will happen:

                          1. Congress will take away the anti-trust exemption

                          2. There's going to be a much more stringent drug policy mandated by the government for all sports (i'm thinking this is the most likely scenario)

MLB is in a world of hurt and the cmte. really exposed the incompetancy and institutional problems of Major League Baseball as a whole.

LOL, thats classic. He is from Cali you know where they like to be in touch with nature.

Seriously though, hes right and this is the shame of it all. He can give only one answer which is no and even then no one believes him. Just look at the comments about Sosa in this thread. The fact is that by Congress calling him out there is a stigma of guilt...which is why this was pointless coupled with the nonanswers.
