I could see why you don't trust government, but I trust MLB even less.

Re: What is your take on the Congress and MLB?

I'll put this here as it relates to the issue.

I'm watching Wolf Blitzer Reports and there was just a report about the son of Burt Hooton's cousin who was a pitcher in HS with a bright future. The kid was 17 yrs old and 175 lbs. yet his coach told him to bulk up. Well he started secretly taking steroids which really messed him up. He began having massive mood swings, acne and depression. The kid had written a letter to his gf talking about their future and wanting to marry her. The next day he killed himself.

I think this story really puts things in perspective. Kids are taking steroids so they can make it big in sports. They see their heros getting off scot-free and they decide to do the same thing. It truly sends a bad message to our youth.

Also there has been an ABC News/ESPN poll conducted 56% of respondents say that records should be taken away from those who took steroids. 66% say that players that take steroids should be banned from the HOF.

Hmm there goes that apathy argument.

Well they don't get much punishment when it comes to their careers. I didn't mean in life. As with the story I related steroids can cause many problems that will either physically shorten your life or wreak havoc on one's mental faculties.

Okay and some kids shoot someone else and say they did it because they watched a certian movie. Big deal. Its not the kids, its the parents, coaches, peer pressure. When you start having the government come in and regulate things because of what some kids choose to do...well..it opens the door to OTHER things. Its all about presedence here people. Since when was the government responsible for raising our kids? Its so funny how no one has yet to mention anything about PARENTS in this thread. Take violent movies for example or better yet video games that depict violence against cops. I think it was some law makers up in Portland who are trying to sue or pass a bill banning video games that depict violence against police officers because they say it encourages that and incites it in real life.,,, Jesus give me a freakin break. What it boils down to is personal responsiblity and responsiblity for ones own actions. What happened to that? Yeah lets let the government raise our kids, tell us what to think how to think what to watch what not to watch. Its slowly starting to happen now, small freedoms that i as an adult are in jeopardy of loosing because parents in today's society here in america do a piss poor job of raising thier kids..and it comes from the broken inner city all the way up to the wealthy lilly white suburbs. Kids in the inner city get raised porly cuz mom and dad are out hustling to put food onthe table, OR they are working 2 or 3 jobs and neglecting the kids. Flip over to the lilly white suburbs and those parents idea of raising kids today is buyingthem a new car at 16 and paying for ther college tution. They are clueless to what thier kids are up to because they are too busy trying to climb that corporate ladder and fit in with the rest of the folks at the Country Club.

If the governments excuse to intervine is because what the pro guys do affects the decision making of kids (ie i guess Sammy Sosa and Jose Canseco is every 17 yr old boy's father now) then the government needs to go ahead and get rid of all the violent video games, movies, etc. Lets just go after these people over here cuz parents dont do anything nowadays but lie down, have sex, push out a kid then go on about thier own lives.

In a nutshell what we are saying is this "We can no longer think for ourselves. We can no longer raise our kids, Uncle Sam please be our new daddy and do what you think is best for us..even if itmeans screwing over the people who actually have half a brain or more." Well parents dont seem to really do jack anymore so I guess we can let the government take a shot at being parents...hey they did it in Russia, Cuba, and been doing it in China for 200 years now lol.

Fully agreed. It's so morally atrocious that everyone is willing to blame MLB and other players for the irresponsible actions of moron kids who do steroids, and yet fully exonerate the kids' idiot parents.

Well after reading what Sen McCain said I guess I was right but to a greater extent. This policy is a damn joke. You can get a fine instead of an suspension. WHAT. Bug selig is one of the top 5 pieces of **** in the US today. He sits there and whines about the public perception of his players and his rules and says its not true and then this come out. Its sad how stupid he thinks some poeple are. The steriod use isnt going to stop.

But what makes this pointless is that you really can't test for this stuff. If steroids are taken correctly, they won't show up in a test. Human Growth Hormone? No test for it.

What I find interesting is what the interaction will be between Canseco, McGwire, and Giambi in the courtroom.
