Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

I was there!!! 5 rows up from Peskys Pole. It was awesome. Some of the people making fun of Milton Bradley were histerical. At one point Milton was like nodding his head then pretending he was going to come over to the stands.

I couldn't have asked for a better game to go to. Schilling was amazing and the offense showed up to so that was cool. It was great seeing Ortiz hit that homerun to. Has anyone seen this mans Mercedes?? It is rediculous.

One more thing I noticed after the game was the Matt Clement had on a Cubs hat when he was leaving. Thought that it was kinda lame.

Maybe he wants out of Boston? Maybe we should help him!

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons

A very interesting article for a number of reasons:

        1. Oakland is pissed. They are pissed that Thomas got hit the other night after Zito went up and in on Ortiz. They are pissed that Swisher got hit in the back by Schilling after he threw behind Varitek. I don't think they have a reason to be pissed. If someone goes up and in and knocks down your big bat somebody on the other side is going to get plunked. And if your captain has a ball thrown behind him that hits him (after a big hit with first base open, no less) someone is going to get drilled. They are also pissed about how the fans are treating Bradley. Thats part of playing on the road, fellas. Only Bradley can be blamed for the reputation he has created for himself.

        2. Schilling has let Varitek take over calling his games. That must be the reason for more pitches inside from Schilling last night. That was easily his best pitched game of the season. I'm curious to see how long Schilling lets Varitek call his games. Perhaps Beckett should follow the leader as well.

So am I the only one who knew Snyder was going to implode at some point? There was no way he was going to keep that up. Losing three out of four at home to the A's is quite a dissapointment. The Royals have been playing fairly well lately, hopefully the Sox don't take them too lightly and rebound with a sweep.

Who else were they going to run out there to pitch, Humpty Dumpty? The fact is, the depletion of the starting rotation due to injuries along with the AL effect (Beckett) is the single biggest flaw of the 2006 Red Sox.

I really hope that David Wells can somehow work his way back and make regular starts for 2 months. Of course, adding Wells will mean nothing if Wakefield's back doesn't magically heal...

Essentially, Schilling is the only guy we can rely on to go out there every 5th day AND perform at a high level.

I didn't say they shouldn't have sent Snyder out there, just expressing my pessimism over his outing since there were probably several arm-chair managers out there saying "They should have been sending this Snyder out there all along," for the first four innings.

I was at the game yesterday, in the bleachers. What a miserable experience. It is by far the hottest game I've ever been to at Fenway. The concourse underneath the bleachers was like a refugee camp. People were passing out, they took a woman out of the bathroom on a stretcher. Not to mention the game sucked.

What a stroke of good fortune!!! The easiest ball 4 call I've ever seen, yet a strike call leads to a 3-run blast to tie it...

This game was looking like a heartbreaker with all of the bad luck the Sox were getting (that ricochet to start the game on Youk's would be double, Crisp's double, PApi's double play, Manny's would-be homerun, Nixon's 412ft fly-out) but it all got turned around, it seemed, with that little basehit by Lowell that just found a hole. The Royals were getting runs off of the same type of hits but everything the Red Sox hit, hard or soft, was finding gloves. Then, of course, the strike 2 call on Mirabelli which should have been ball 4. And then Papi's hit in the 8th which bounced over the first baseman's head to set-up Manny's sac-fly.

Lost in this though is the fact that Wake couldn't make it into the 5th inning. I imagine he's going to have to go on the DL and somebody may get called up. I would have guessed Dave Pauley but he's been struggling at Triple A. Perhaps Ginter?

And by the way...Manny/Youk's reaction to papi's stolen base was classic.

No posts after Lester and Pap one-hit the Royals? I was out all night, I hope the rest of you have an excuse. That was an unbelievable performance. Hopefully the Sox bring their brooms tomorrow.

My excuse is that we lost power on my street for most of the night. I did listen to the game in my car though.

Before anyone says "But It was just the Royals", Lester pitched well against a team he should pitch well against. It was nice to finally see him get past the 5th. I'd still like to see him throw more strikes though so he can get deeper into games against good hitting teams.
