Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

Coco and his hands continue to plague him. In 2005, Coco fractured his thumb I believe, and was reported to be out for 3-4 months. As it turned out, he was only out for about 2 weeks and the injury healed far better than expected. He went on to have a very solid year production wise.

Now in 2006 he is going through some sort of knuckle problem? I'd like to hear some official word from the team before thinking about alternate solutions, but it should go without saying that this licks donkey nuts. Fortunately, this team is deep and won't throw in a Tony Womack caliber player out there. I can live with Adam Stern for a while, though not leaeding off. Other options would include Wily Mo in center and Dustan Mohr.

I'd like to see Stern get the bulk of the PT now. With some sprinkling of Pena in when needed.

It'd be good to really get a look at Stern to see exactly what he is. Since he's had that Rule V rules tag on him we haven't really been able to see much of him. If Tito is going to stick him at the leadoff spot more, I hope he learns to take more pitches.

I don't understand why no other sources are reporting the injury though...?

I don't think Coco will miss much time. The Sox shouldn't miss a beat.

Now it might be a broken finger. Who knows.

Ken Rosenthal has an article out today saying he believes the Marlins will move Dontrelle by the deadline. Possibly making a return to the Cubs organization, or going to the Braves or to..... The Red Sox for Jon Lester.

Still a long way away though.

I don't think they'll trade Willis, but stranger things have happened.

                That would just be ridiculous.

I havn't heard any reports on Coco. D&C called him this morning and said he was half asleep, but said the finger is fine so who knows.

                  Hopefully Stern can step up.

                    Hi all
Whats the plan for Willy Mo Pena?Any rumors on whats going on?I ask because you guys seem strong in the outfield(Just found out about Coco's injury) are the Sox gonna move Nixon?.Nixon seems untouchable to me at least.
Or is Willy there for when Manny gets moved?Or have I just read way to much into that trade and the Sox had a lot of depth in pitching and they just wanted more depth in the field/hitting?Anyways good luck this year and I hope Mike Lowell has a good season this year he struggled last year at the plate.

WEEI just confirmed that Coco's finger is broken and he'll be out a month.

Also, the David Ortiz deal is done and there will be a press conference this afternoon.

I think they plan on having 5 OFs on the roster...Nixon, Manny, Crisp, Pena and Stern, especially now that Crisp may be out, so I don't expect any of them to be traded very quickly.

****, that could seriously hurt. Stern's really going to get his PT now, hopefully he steps up.

Stern would have been sent down after his 17 days, if Crisp didn't get hurt.

With Crisp out, Stern will stay up, along with probably Willie Harris.

Yeah...also, what pitcher is being sent down in order for Wells to come up, any word yet? I heard he's coming up this week for the series against Tor.

I think Wells is pitching Wednesday. It has to be DiNardo. I think he's the only with an option, besides Papelbon.
