It was a liner over Loretta's head. He jumped to make a play and deflected the ball to Gonzalez on a hop who touched second and fired to first for the double play.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006
Manny sucks
Trade him“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

I've never quite understood why any batter would go first pitch hacking unless it was a Wakefield fastball straight down the pipe.
It just seems like such a waste.
Hopefully he really listens to Manny and Papi this year and makes some improvement.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. lol
Ugh... Yankees score two to bring it within one.
One of the best things I see in Beckett thus far is his ability to still be productive and stay in games even when he has to labor in the first inning. But that first inning act is going to really hurt him one of these games if he keeps it up.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. You pick up games when you can. Especially if a cupcake team like the Royals can get one from them. The games played in April count the same as the ones played in September.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. Originally posted by MisfitThere's still no sense in turning the Red Sox thread into a running gamelog for the Yankees in April. Any Sox fan expecting the Yankees to lose to the Royals today is far too optimistic anyways, even when they were down.
Losing by 3 in the bottom of the 8th inning would give a little reason to be optimistic that they could possibly lose that game. Vs. any team. But whatever.
I'll try not to turn this in to a running Yankee game thread....“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006
I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with Beckett. In both his starts, he hasn't had his best stuff early but has minimized damage and still been able to go 7. He's gonna be scary when he starts cruising.Comment
