Congratulations to Trevor Hoffman, acheiving baseball's all-time career saves record!

This thread showed more activity at the beginning of the season than towards the end when things are much more exciting than they were in April.

A little disappointed but yet I'm not surprised.

Peavy won't be winning the strikeout crown this year. Harang just passed him with 216 now.

Decisive game here. A Padre win clinches a playoff berth.

A Dodger loss puts the magic number down to 1 for the division. Hopefully the Dodgers can keep winning to keep those Phils out of the playoffs.

Phillie won and we lost, Magic Number for a playoff birth is still 1.

As for the Dodgers, the Padres need to hope that they lose this one against the Giants to avoid a tie for the division. Really horrible game today, but Livan always shuts down the Padres.

If the Dodgers lose, the Magic Number for the division drops to 2.

A tie in the division still gives the Padres the advantage (head-to-head record).

I just want to avoid all scenarios and win the damn game tommorow.

Dodgers win tomorrow they get a playoff berth.

Padres win tomorrow they get a playoff berth.

If both teams win tomorrow, they both clinch.

If the Phillies lose, both teams clinch.

Basically how it goes, except the goal is to win the division.

Yes, I think the Dodgers are probably going to handle the Giants this weekend and hopefully this loss is a wakeup call that things aren't exactly done with this season with the Padres.

However, with this bullpen, how can anyone believe this team will be better?

First Base has me worried. Klesko is already hurt from what I gather, Gonzalez has a nice glove, but doesn't appear ready to hit at the Major League level.

Chris Young, he's sure looking like a good pickup in the Eaton Deal.

This team is a mess, has no apparent direction, and on top of getting worse has also gotten much older, with little help in the farm system. I see another prolonged era of 90 loss teams coming.
I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read this. The only thing that he got right was Brazelton being in the rotation when the season started.

Those weren't so farfetched considering how the roster looked like in April than it does now.

Which is exactly why I don't get myself worked up over the first few weeks of the season. None of us, not even the ones that think they have their finger on the pulse of all that is holy in basbeall can predict how a season will turn out, unless they're talking about the Royals or DRays.

True, everyone thought the Tigers and Marlins would be dead in the water before the season started and both teams either made or were close to making the playoffs.

If the Pads win tonight, do they clinch? Or do they need someone else to lose on top of that?
