I still have my doubts that this will stick. It's a nice experiment...but I can't see this being a long term thing. Just my opinion.
I really think this has more to do with keeping some other hitters happy...because I'm gonna guess that both Alou and Delgado would not be happy hitting in the sixth spot...and with Wright batting #5.....one of those guys has to be there. THAT is what I think this is REALLY about.

How was that OLD #2 hitter?

Okay win. I don't like how many guys we left on base or how many our relievers allowed to reach.
                  Glavine looked good tonight.
Who was it during the game that got hurt? Was it Kennedy?

And during the game, i set up my PC wallpaper. It's Fireworks Night at Shea and they definitely had that at Busch tonight.

Had 2 opportunities to catch this game, and twice it payed off.
First time around it was Paul Lo Duca singling through the middle, to bring the score to 5-0, and the second time around, the same scenario was avoided. Heilman got the job done, getting the double play ball in the bottom eighth. The Mets looked good, now it's the Yankees turn.
                      Baseball is here.

Re: 2007 New York Mets Discussion

Mets are going to be an interesting team to watch.

Love their lineup. Reyes is a dynamic hitter at the top of the order. I love Loduca hitting #2, while he doesn't have a lot of speed, guy puts the ball in play and can hit behind the runner as well as anyone. They've got pop from both sides of the plate with Beltran, Delgado and one of my favorite players to watch David Wright. If Moises Alou and Shawn Green stay healthy, it's a very difficult lineup to get through.

Obviously there are questions about the rotation after Glavine. Never been a big El Duque fan, but he can be effective. Not sure how well he matches up against the #2 starters around the league. I don't know a lot about Maine. Perez, has the potential to be as good as anyone. If his head is on straight, he could really be a steal. If not, he could be a disaster.

My biggest concern for the Mets is their ability to get from the starter to Wagner. Especially since Pedro when he comes back and Tom Glavine are basically 6 inning pitchers at this point. (Pedro average 5.7 IP per start last year, Glaving 6.1 innings per start last year, and both are a year older). If their middle relief and Heilman can just keep the ship afloat from inning 6 through 8, they are going to be awfully tough. I think any more injuries to their starters or pen though could mean trouble.

What are the odds they trade Millings or another prospect for a proven arm or two?

We are on pace for 162-0, I like.

I think you meant Milledge and I don't think they trade him unless they get a top of the line arm like Dontrelle or Dan Haren. Milledge had some problems in the clubhouse last year but he completely rehabilitated his image during spring training. He might even have a shot to supplant Green in the lineup if he has a good first 2 weeks before Pelfrey is called up as the 5th starter.

I too am worried about the bullpen. It's probably my biggest concern about the team. They get Mota back in June and Duaner back in June or July as well but they have a serious problem for 7th inning pitcher. Hopefully someone like Joe Smith steps up but they might have to use Feliciano in that role. I also have my doubts about Wagner, who showed once again last year that he is not a big game closer.
